Is one of your twins bigger than the other? Is it significant?
We go to the pedi tomorrow and I am worried that they are going to be below the charts as far as percentiles go...

Alex is mostly breastfed... I wanted it to be exclusive, but I find myself supplementing him a few times a day. He is only 8 lbs (he was 6/7 at our last appt last month)

Ava gets mostly formula, AND whatever I am able to pump... which is ablout 8 oz/day. She has been growing significantly faster - she is about 9.5 lbs. (she was 7/4 at our last appt.)

I get frustrated when I look at them side by side. I know I shouldn't be comparing them, but I sometimes feel like I should quit BFing since Alex seems to be growing slower and looks so much tinyer than his sister.

    Any advice?

Should I expect them to be in the lower persentiles at this stage? They are almost 3 months old.

My twins will be 2 months this week and baby A (Sophie) has always been larger than Baby B (Isabelle). Since birth Sophie is 1 1/2 - 2 lbs. heavier. Both of my girls are formula fed. I wish they would get closer in size so I can see if they look alike!

    Hello,

Try not to worry too much. Here are some statistics on my little ones. You will notice that DS is bigger than DD. He seems to consistently weigh about 2 lbs more. I gave them ebm and formula for the first 5.5 months and now they are on strictly formula.

    ....................Birth...........2 weeks.............9 weeks..............4 months.................6 months................9 months

    Wes..............4.12............5.3 (<3%).........10.11 (35%)........15.1 (35%)..............16.14 (25%)..........19.12 (40)

    Leah.............4.6..............4.12 (<3%)........9.10 (26%).........13.8 (35%)...............14.14 (25%)..........17.13 (25)

I hope this helps ease your mind a little. Try not to worry too much about their weights. I know I was so worried in the beginning and I can't figure out why. They are growing, happy babies now!

Both of mine are formula fed and my DD was bigger at birth not much but slightly and my DS has passed her and is always at least a lb heavier than she is. At their last appt 4months they were 14.4lb my DD and 15.4lb my DS.

It's hard not to compare them, but try not to. They are different babies and will grow at different rates, regardless of what they eat.

At 4 months my DD was 8lbs12oz, which was the 2nd percentile, DS was 9lbs12oz, also the 2nd percentile

Keep in mind, percentiles might be valuable in watching an individual's growth, but IMO don't mean much in comparison to other kids. When my older DD was 2 months she weighed 8lbs14oz and was in the same percentile as her sister who weighed 2 oz less at 2 months older

My DS started gaining faster then my DD from the beginning - both are BF. There's now about a 3 lb weight difference. As for percentiles, Ben is in the 25% and Chloe in the 18%, but they are following their own growth curves and developing just fine. Just remember that genetics plays a big role and with frats - they are basically two singletons that ended up sharing a womb. As long as they are healthy and both growing, try not to worry too much. :) Easier said than done - I totally stressed out with feeding my first DD (also small) but she's fine and always was - it was just me!

I've got one kiddo bigger than the other, too. At our last appointment (4 mos) last week, Jonathan weighed 15.8 lbs and was only in the 35th percentile and James was 14 lbs. and in the 25th percentile. I was concerned about the percentile thing, but our pedi told us not to worry at all - since they were preemie, they won't catch up until they're about 2. He was pleased with their growth and development and said we shouldn't be concerned with the percentile stuff.

    I hope that helps!

I have one that is 2 lbs. bigger than his brother and he was a lot smaller at birth. Like others have said, try not to compare and they will grow at their own rate. As long as they are eating, peeing and pooping and happy...they are doing great!

My boys were born at 4.8 and 5.12. They ended up at a 3lb difference, and now they are 6 months and have a little over 2lb difference. We had their 6mo apt yesterday and Kyan was 17.4= 35% and River was 15.2=6%. They are both healthy and doing well, and the Dr said they will probably even out eventually. I always feel bad because everyone comments on how chubby Kyan is. Yes, he is bigger than his brother... but he is only in the 35th percentile so its not like he is too big. Its hard not to compare them to eachother, but I try really hard to just let them each be their own person.

    Hi Michelle!

Lily has always been between 1 lb and 1 1/2 lbs bigger than Mia. Mia is always around the 10th percentile, while lily is usually b/t the 25th or 30th percentile. Remember, percentiles really don't matter, it's their growth curve that's important. When they were born, Mia was off the charts she was so little..

My boys have always had a pretty significant weight difference. Jake was born at 5lbs. and Ben was born at 3lbs. 13oz. They both have always been bottle fed with formula. Ben had just always been my "mighty little peanut". What he lacks in size and weight, he certainly makes up for in attitude and stubborness (my DH and I each think he got this from each other LOL). He had always been the one to do everything first...roll over, sit on his own, crawl, pull up and cruise. At their 9mo. WBV Jake weighed in at 21lbs. 3oz. (50th percentile) and Ben weighed a whopping 16lbs. 10oz. (He currently is not on the chart in percentile and never has been) my ped. is not concerned because he has been growing on his own curve and is as healthy as a horse (eats like one too!) I guess he just has a fast metabolism (definitely didn't get that from me!!!). I wouldn't worry about it if I were you, as long as they are eating good, healthy and happy.

My girls are both breastfed. I tandem nurse so they both get the same number of nursings and nurse for about the same amount of time; however there is a 2 lb. difference between them. It has been that way for awhile. I too have to remember that they are two different babies and not compare them with each other.
