We took Cooper into the Pedi yesterday to look at his diaper rash and see what was going on- it's so raw and horrible looking. After we discussed that I asked about when could we start to wean the boys off of Nutramigen. The stuff is getting so expensive and they are eating like horses now,$450 a month on formula alone. I was shocked and expected some resistance but she didn't blink an eye and said we could start right away! She did mention that we might want to do it 1/2 and 1/2 for a few days to get them used to the taste(doubt that will be a problem with my piggys)but to go ahead. I asked when will we know if they do still have a true milk protein allergy? She said if they start vomiting, bloody stools, belly cramps. If they do any of that we need to go back to the Nutramigen. I'm excited and hoping it works b/c it will be nice to cut our formula bill in 1/2. We are going to continue the Prevacid for now and discuss it at their 9mos well check.

Now any BTDT moms I have some ???

If you did wean how did it go? Did you have any issues? How old were they? Did you stay with the same Brand of formula? Any advice I would love!

Both of my boys were on Alimentum since about 2 months and their Pedi said that although I should have no problem switching to milk that I shouldn't do that until they are close to their first bday. I think 7/8 months is too early, babies still need all the nutrients that formula provides for the first year and yours still have a good 4/5 months of strictly formula left. If you have to do it for cost try ebay and buy in bulk or if anything just keep it 1/2 formula 1/2 milk until they are a few weeks from one.
My boys will be one on 12/21 I started half and half last week and today they are on all milk with no rashes or problems. GL!

Thanks Shadyfeline-I may have not posted correctly above, sorry. I do still plan on using formula(Similac Advacne or Enfamil Lipil) for the next few months. Just trying to wean off of the Nutramigen to reg formula. We probably want even discuss regular milk until around 13/14 monts to correct for their actual age. Did your guys stay on Nutramigen the whole time?

    Thx

Yes, they stayed on Alimentum until last week and they will be one in 9 days. I also receive WIC so I did not have to pay for the cans which just went up to $25 for one can of powder but that will stop also in 9 days. So I had to switch since I will not be able to afford that.

I didn't take my Ds off Neocate til he was 11 months old. I was afraid to try it earlier because he might still have had the milk allegry and I wanted him to drink milk. All was well though because he goes through a gallon every two days now [IMG]
