I´ve been given the go-ahead to give my LOs cow´s milk. What I´ve been doing is making their formula and adding 1oz of cow´s milk. It worked yesterday but today DS rejected it. DD drank her milk yesterday with 2oz of cow´s milk with 3oz of formula. I put it down to being hungry. In the evenings, I now make their dinner with just cow´s milk with cereal added that thickens it. They didnt seem to notice it wasn´t formula.

So my question is, how did you go about changing from formula or BM to giving cow´s milk?

    TIA!

We started doing 1/2 pediasure and 1/2 milk. The pediasure was so sweet that the girls drank it! However, my girls are very tiny and the pedi recommended the pediasure for extra calories.

I *very* gradually added milk to their formula. I think I started with the morning bottle because I was concerned about them having a reaction. Once the morning bottle was almost all milk, I started mixing their evening bottle too. It took about 3 months to be off all formula, but thats as fast as I could go because they were spitting up when I tried to go 'cold turkey.' GL!!!

    Hi Rach:

I actually started adding the 2 ounces of milk per bottle at about 11 months ( with formula). Each week I would increase by two ounces. I started giving them full bottles of only milk on Monday.

I do soy milk after they get up from their afternoon nap now so that my supply will build for their last breastfeeding of the night... I ended up going cold turkey! I just pour it in cold into bottles and they drink it up. I didn't put a lot of thought into it... but it seems to work for us. Ours don't quite get the sippies yet.... and I haven't pushed them... they get the water or milk out of the cup but then get too much in their mouth or something and dribble too much... I must work at that and then I'll just use sippies..

Thanks for your replies. Mine only drink milk for breakfast and only 5oz - they eat yoghurts as a subsitute - if Im lucky. I think Im going to have to go slowly with the cow´s milk: ounce by ounce.

Cold turkey here too. They were taking yogurt and cheese, so I knew dairy was not a problem

I started 1/2 formula 1/2 milk for the last of the 2 cans of formula I had, then went straight to milk.
