and Lily is having terrible, nap interupting gas. Could this be a result of taking her off of her AXID? She did just have the stomach bug recently so is it more likely to be the end of that? I am soo paranoid about getting them off of their meds.

I have tried twice (with terrible results) to wean my boys off of their reflux meds. It seems like it takes a few days for all of the medicine to get out of their systems and then they become super irritable and cranky, like they're in a lot of pain... they stop sleeping well... stop eating well... and then the spit up fountains get turned on again so we go back to the meds. But, having said that, I don't think increased gas has been one of the side effects. Maybe that's just related to the Axid (as opposed to Prevacid) - who knows? Or maybe something new she's eating? Does Mylicon help at all? These babies are a constant guessing game aren't they?? Good luck with getting Lily off the Axid... I WIIISSHHH we could get off of our meds (we just paid $700 for a 3 month supply of Prevacid)

I know - it is soooo expensive. DH keeps saying ...wean the kids of the axid, stop buying mylicon, get Jack off the Alimentum.... I know we are trying to save money but he is not the one that has to deal with the backlash. Next thing you know he will tell me to stop buying daipers! I made a waffle for Lily yesterday morning and DH actually stopped me when I pulled it out of the freezer (Eggos) and cut it into quarters so that we did not waste it....
As if things were not hard enough :)

I weaned my kids off reflux meds the following way... They were prescribed a dosage at 4 mos that we never increased. As they grew, the dosage stayed the same -- essentially they self-weaned because as they got bigger, they got less medicine for their weight. It worked real well for us.

I would also say--- that our kids' reflux was caused by a dairy protein intolerance. I have one son who still has issues with dairy at 18 mos and one who is fine with it now. Most kids outgrow this stuff by 1 to 3 years. Since your kid is on Alimentum, i'd bet that she has the same issue. Since all of these formulas have either soy or milk proteins (even if they are pre-digested) they are still present and will cause a kid with severe intolerance issues. Also -- if you're feeding her things like eggos -- they definitely have milk and butter in them.

I'd start reading labels and limit the amt of milk products she gets and see if that helps you more than the meds. You may find that removing the majority of dairy from her diet will allow you to elim the axid.

I weaned Sam off around her 1st bday with no problems.

Syd is almost 2 and still on the med. Recently went to a hollistic Dr who says her digestive system hasn't matured properly (partly from pyloric stenosis, reflux and reflux meds). She's now on enzymes, probiotics and other stuff that will help her body heal and finally get her off the Zegerid.
