We love the dollar store!

I feel like I am having so much fun lately with my 3 and 1/2 year olds so I want to share!

My mother sent the girls $2.00 bills for Valentine's Day. We went to the dollar store and I told the girls I would give them each a dollar to add to the $2.00 they already had. I gave them shopping baskets and they had a BLAST picking out 3 WHOLE toys for themselves. They were squealing and laughing and acting like it was Christmas! It was so much fun. They ended up picking out 3 bags apiece of plastic farm animals, dinosaurs and spiders (ugh). They must have played for 2 hours straight with them when we got home. Too cute.

It was also a great lessen on teaching them that they needed to limit their choices and to decide on what they really wanted. Plus, everything is a dollar so there was no confusion on prices, etc.

My mother gave me this idea- When she watches her grandkids she has them help her return bottles for the deposits and then they spend their "earnings" at the dollar store. Good fun.

The dollar store is also great to find craft supplies! Dollar Tree usually has a pretty big section of coloring books too.

 

One time when we took a bunch of my 6 year old daughter's friends we took them to the dollar store and gave them $3.00 each. They loved the shopping and and paying by themselves.

 

I agree re the craft supplies. Sometimes it's hit or miss, but once I got a huge packet of adhesive magnet sheets for photos. Just once...

I LOVE the dollar store!!

And I love it as a place to teach kids about spending. Makes it so easy. Everything's a dollar!

We have lots of plastic animals, bugs, reptiles, etc. from the dollar store. They are Ben's favorite toys!!!

 

Mine LOVE board books. I find all kinds of good ones at the Dollar Store. They even carry Sesame Street board books, which the kiddos are SO into.
