from ny state to nm for my husband's job. my poor husband travelled across the country with a 2 year old, a 25 week pregnant wife, and 2 cats. haha. we all made it here and the trip went surprisingly well!

now that we are here, i had to find myself a new doctor. i, luckily, found one right away and i think they are great. i saw my doctor for the first time last week and i'm impressed with the staff of the whole place. they are very personalble and easy to talk to. however, i didn't get to spend much time talking to my new dr. because she was very, very busy.

so, i went to pre-register at the hospital to avoid future chaos (try to anyway). the woman up on the l&d floor was telling me about the place and then asked who my dr. was. i told her and she said that that entire staff of dr.s at that office (any one of them could deliver me. it depends on who is on call at the time.) likes to deliver twins only by c-section and that there isn't a hospital with a nicu within 3 hours of here! so..if my babies are born early, i'll have to drive 3 hours to see them! now i'm all nervous that i'm going to go early and have to be so far away from home.

anyone have to drive 3+ hours to have their babies put in the nicu??

Glad the move went well and you all arrived safely!!

Our NICU was over an hour away, and luckily we were able to stay at my IL's while they were in there which was much closer. You may want to see if there is a Ronald McDonald house near the NICU, they often make arrangements for parents that don't live close. I also think that it is free.

I hope it's not something that you end up having to deal with! GL!!

This was going to be my suggestion as well. I'm glad you all made it to NM safe and sound. I'm hoping you won't have to deal with the NICU .

What part of NM are you in? El Paso, TX has a good NICU at Providence Hospital.

Where did you move from?? You can keep those babies in there. It will be fine.

The nearest NICU to us was 4 hours away. I was nervous the whole time. I did have the fFN test done three times in order to know if I was in preterm. Actually you have to make it past 36 weeks at our hospital in order to have them here. So I'm still a bit on the edge with this pregnancy. Everything went fine with my twin pregnancy, and I delivered by c-section due to positions at 37w3d. Hopefully all will go well with your pregnancy and it won't be an issue.

Good luck! Glad the move went well and you like your new doc. We have a decent NICU but any big problems and if the babies are born prior to 27 weeks they have to go to another NICU 3 hours away as well. We're also hoping that doesn't happen. Definitely check into the Ronald McDonald house!

thanks for all of the responses! i'm certainly hoping we don't have to deal with it at all, but it's still in the back of my mind.

we moved from corning, ny, and are now living in roswell, nm. this is a very big town compared to corning! haha. but there was a hospital with a nicu in it just 20 minutes from corning, so i thought there'd definitely be one right near here.

let's just pray these babies stay comfy right where they are! :D

and i'll have to look into the ronald mcdonald house just to be ready in case! :)

The nicu is one reason we choose to deliver c section at a major hospital. My hospital of choice does have one and it's a 2hr drive. There is also Childrens Mercy Hospital nearby and it's approx 3hr drive from home. They come in when there are babys from high risk mom's to monitor. Anything special such as Downs, spina bifida, diseases, genetic disorders, or transplants they will transfer them. Otherwise most of it's handled at the nicu so that's a relief.

Most of the drive to Childrens is slow since it's inside the city, traffic is thick, and it's construction season. It's usually less the rest of the year.
