The girls each got two shots in one leg, and one shot in the other. On the leg that got the two shots, they both have bruised really bad and have hard knots under the skin. It was done 3 days ago. We got frustrated at their pedi office and started taking them to our dr. several months ago. Do you think the nurse is just not as good as the pedi nurses that see kids all day, or is this a normal reaction for a 15 mo. old who is more aware of what is going on and moving around more? Thanks in advance. Stephanie

Poor things :( I think that is a normal reaction though. I know I got a huge knot on my arm once when I got an immunization. I hope they are feeling better soon!

If they still have the knots this long after the shots, I'd get them looked at. They can get reactions from the needles in addition to the medication. The nurse may have gone into the skin instead of muscle or other things. I hope they feel better. BTW- my girls were late with immunizations also, they catch up.

I think it's normal. I know when Emilie got her shots at 15 months the nurse made a comment that she would get a bruise, because she didn't get the best location for the shot.

I was told it was completely normal. I called the ped's office after my girls' shots b/c Alana had a knot like you've described and it was kind of red and warm. They told me the redness and heat would go away in a day or two but the knot could stay for as long as two weeks. I don't remember which shot it came from, but they said it was very normal.

Thank you so much for your responses. Both 'lumps' are looking a little better today.

Sorry to hear the girls had a reaction, but glad to see from others' posts that it seems to be on par with their experiences.

Hope all is well and that you got some good weights at your apt. :)
