WOW - formula is expensive. I get the occasional Enfamil coupon which now I need to use. Any other ways I can cut costs or twins discounts anyone knows of? We use Enfamil Lipil but maybe others will work. Jeesh - glad we only have to make it a couple months.

Edited for additional question - can you mix formulas or is it advisable to stick with one? Thanks everyone.

The prefrence is to stay with one. Parents choice from Sams is comparable to Similac Advance. I got a case of free samples from a baby expo. Anyway I use them when I out of my cans.

You can also check out baby resale shops. I always see cans half off of price. Moms who change formula give up the cans for a low price. Lastly Craig's list. I hate to think this, but I believe alot of people sell their WIC leftovers....but desperate times.

5280- I'm sitting here, staring at Enfamil Lipil premium that was given to me by St. Joseph hospital (in the diaper bag pack)- I've never used it and can't figure out what to do with it! I couldn't bear to throw it away as I know it's pretty expensive.

As we are in the same city, do you want it?

    Lemme know!

Member's Mark from Sam's Club is supposed to be comparable to your kind

I was going to suggest buying the store brand of whatever is comparable, but I wasn't sure which kind was. All formula is regulated so the cheaper stuff may just smell a bit stronger, or have a few more bubbles in it when you mix it up. :)

I used the Target generic brand. At just under $12 a can, it was the best deal I could find. We used 3 cans a week, so we had a budget of about $150/month for formula. We started weaning and doing a half and half mix with whole milk at 11 months. So luckily you're almost there!

I would phone the company of the formula you use and see if they have a program for twins. I know we used enfamil gental ease for a long time and I contacted the company and they sent me double the coupons along with free samples. My boys are now on allimentum and there is no cupons or discounts for that :(

I also forgot to mention that when my babies were a little older - like over 7 months or so - I tried other brands when I had free samples or freebie coupons. We didn't have any issues switching back and forth between brands.

The Member's Mark formula that I mentioned that is comparable to Enfamil LIPIL is $20 for a 51.4 oz can! That makes it about 41cents an ounce. Enfamil's normal can of formula is about 86cents an ounce. It's half the price

Seriously, a week ago we were supplementing and this week we used all but one bottle of BM a day. Suddenly, my DH and I were looking at each other and started talking about how we needed to pick up yet another can. We are on track to go through almost three a week. Even this close to a year the cost is freaking me out. Thanks for the tip. You know, I use that brand at the pedis' recommendation...so it isn't a done deal.

Thanks - I will check it out - that is a huge savings!

My twins started out on the most expensive, similac alimentum. YUCK. At about 6 months we moved to similac advance. Now we are onto walmart parents choice and they are doing fine. Thankfully. So our costs for formula are going to be cut in half. YES!!!!!!!!!

I would definitely look into store brands.

Goofyjilly - how did you switch them? I am so ready to get off the hypoallergic or wahtever formula but not sure when they would be ready to go to a regular formula or if they ever will? What were your LOs on Ali for in the 1st place?

One thing to consider is that Sams Club also have the 36oz cans of Enfamil Lipil Premium for $29. This makes it a bit cheaper, as I believe it's $25 in most places for the 24oz can.

We have mixed formulas in the past on advisement of our pediatrician. We were mixing the Enfacare and the Enfamil Lipil Premium 50/50 for a while, but we then stopped as the Enfacare is higher calories and they no longer needed it. I would check with your ped to see if they would recommend that you mix for your particular babies.

Mead Johnson (the makers of Enfamil) will also send you 2 cases of their formula for free as part of the twins program. Check with your pediatrician for the document to send off to them. It takes a few weeks to arrive, but it was great when $200+ of formula showed up on our doorstep!

Does your county/state offer a WIC program - Women, Infant, Children ... It's a state run program that you can check into for free formula. I'm not sure if there are different guidelines for different states but in WI we were able to receive free formula until they were 1 if you don't breastfeed. We were even able to receive the Allimentum with a doctors prescription as one of our LO's had a sensitive tummy. If you breastfeed than you get food i.e. milk, vegetables, fruit, etc. I still untilize the program even after they turned a year. Now they get food like whole milk, cereal, juice, bread, etc. I do know that they have some income guidelines. We qualified because my husband lost his job right before the twins were due and I didn't make very much $. Now I'm a SAHM and am still under the guidelines. It's just an option to look into and a very nice program, especially when you have twins!!!! Here's the website: WIC Website Good luck!

I just wanted to give another plug for the Target brand - it worked great for us and is cheaper! We also used a pitcher and made formula in that so we could get exact amounts in the bottles and none went to waste!!!

My twins ended up on WalMart brand, and I had only wished I had switched them sooner!
