We had to call 911 for DS last night.

Our lives flashed before us last night and we are so thankful that God was with us.

My MIL was giving DS and DD a bath last night as I was packing for a trip. She and DH got them out of the tub. As usual they were wrapped in towels, lying down, drinking their sippies. They have been doing this for months so they won't fuss. MIL was putting lotion on DS (DH was doing the same to DD) and DS started fussing. The next thing we know my MIL says to my DH that DS is not breathing and she jerked him up. Sure enough his whole body was lifeless and his eyes were rolled back in his head. He was unresponsive. My DH turned him over and pounded on his back 15 or so times and then turned him around and started shaking him. After about 30+ seconds he started crying. DH was a fulltime fireman until recently and I was so thankful he was home. As they were trying to get DS to breathe I called 911. My husband's old shift came so it felt like family. We took Ds to the emergency room and he checked out fine. We still don't know exactly what caused this. The doctor suggested that he may have been mad and just held his breath. She said that is very common for this age. She said he may have choked (eventhough we didn't see or hear any signs of choking). They don't think he had a seizure because their was no shaking. This was the most terrifying thing that has ever happened to me. We are all still so shaken up by the whole event. No one got sleep last night because we were watching him to make sure he was okay. Will I ever be able to stop worrying?

DS and DD both received one year shots on Tuesday and both have colds. We don't know if either one of these also played a role in this. I just don't want it to happen again.

    God is good!

So glad he is ok!!! I know EXACTLY how you feel.

We had something very similar happen with Eli when he was only a couple months old and had to call EMS. His was from getting choked on some spit up when he was refluxing and lying down. Thank God my dad was right beside him when it happened. I have never been so scared in my life!

How terrifying! Just wanted to add that when he was a small child, my BIL used to hold his breath when angry, sometimes until he passed out! He was pretty rotten. Over time everyone just kind of got used to him doing it.

Horrifying. I am so glad he is okay. Poor little guy. I would be very suspicious of the shots. Too big a coincidence. At the very least I would seperate the shots next time and get only ones that are the most important.

My heart goes out to you. I know how terrifying it can be! We had to call 911 a couple weeks ago for Ben. They think he had a seizure since he had a slight fever at the time and I think that I caught the tail end of the seizing seeing some visible tremors. But seeing your baby unconscious is truly frightening and heart wrenching.

I am glad that it had a happy ending and that it was an isolated incident. Hugs to you.

I'm so glad he's okay. I also wanted to let you know that not all seizures are visible. My DH's sister, another little girl I know about, and my cousing all had/have a childhood type of epilepsy that doesn't involve tremors. They just sort of "zone out." doesn't sound like that's what happened to your son since he was kind of limp, but if it happens again, at least you'll know about this so you can discuss it with the pediatrition. I hope and pray it doesn't happen again. My Jackson is a breath holder, and there have been many times when i wondered, when, when, when is going to take a breath!??

OMG Steph! :hug99: Thank God he is ok! How horrible. I would have freaked out. And they really don't know what caused it huh? I can't believe how calm and how quickly he was cared for, thank goodness.

I hope he is going to be ok. :hug99:

Oh man I have been there. I did cpr on my son twice (once at 6 mos and the other at 14mos). Its terrifying. I would def look into the reflux thing. We aren't 100% certain of what caused my son to stop breathing. I was holding him in my arms and he was gasping for breath and then just inhaled and went out. He turned completely bluish/purple and his face looked swollen...I had that vision in my head for the longest time. Everyone told me to get an Angel Care Monitor but after the second time of him doing it I got a o2 Sat monitor which he wore for almost a year. He has some other issues as he was a preemie (a narrow airway being his most severe) so thats why we had to really watch him.
I hope you are able to find out what happened and hope it was just a fluke. My heart goes out to you as I know how stressful that really is...I felt like it took forever for the EMS to get there. I was still doing cpr waiting for them but luckily had got him back breathing both times before they showed up!

Hpw scary. I hope he is all better. My DS had a febrile seizure when he was 11 months old that did not have any shaking. His body just went limp and his eyes in this glazed over stare. It was so scary. :hug99:

I'm so glad he is ok. We had a similiar scare where my DS couldn't breathe and after a few days I was able to move on. He's been ok since.

How scary, I can't even imagine. Like a PP mentioned, I would be very leery of the shots, do you know which they received? I would contact the pedi (if you haven't already) and they should report this to VAERS. If they had only received the shots 2 days prior to this happening it is very possible that it could have been a reaction. *hugs*

I wanted to second this. For years I suffered from akinetic seizures and I never had any shaking. Basically I would feel it coing on, pass out and wake up a minute later sweating, tired and confused. People who saw me seize said that I would try to breath through my clamped teeth and usually my eyes were closed but on occasion they were open. People usually think that all seizures involve shaking but they're really thinking of epilepsy.

I'm not saying that he definitely had a seizure but don't rule out the possibility because he didn't shake.

I'm glad that he's ok and that it passed quickly.
