We had a visit from the Sheriff yesterday!

So, it is storming and all 5 of us are sitting on our sunporch listening to the rain and thunder and talking - Jack Johnson is playing loudly - and the kids are dragging toys from the playroom to the sunporch and back. Nice, relaxing afternoon! Suddenly, we hear a LOUD banging on our front door! DH tells us to wait on the sunporch and he heads to the front door and says, "It is the Sheriff!". He answers and the Sheriff says we received a complete 911 call from this address. DH says, Huh? They want all of us to go into the foyer so they can see us all (I'm assuming to make sure everyone is OK) and then they wanted to see the phone the call was made from. As I'm bringing them the phone I suddenly remembered seeing Sullivan walking around with the phone up to his ear. Guess he wasn't just pretending to call someone! I explained what had happened, they checked the phone out and left. DH and I slowly recovered from our shock! Guess it was Sullivan's turn - Finley did it when he was around 18 months, but the Sheriff called back and I was able to tell them that it was an accident. Kids!

Alice did that when she was 15 months old. And she hung up on them! Oh the embarassment. I totally would have used that to my advantage though now. . .after all the stuff, I would ask the police man if he would tell them "You need to sit in your car seats and not mess with the belts" or whatever the problem du jour is.

I mean, he's already there, right? He's got to fill out forms and stuff, might as well ask him if he wants a soda or a glass of water and if he wouldn't mind doing it. Hopefully they wouldn't. :)

Oh, yikes! I know my kids are going to do that one of these days. I like the idea of getting the cops to have a word with them, though. :diablo:

 It was funny, after the fact. We were just lucky there was a break in the song and we heard the banging on the door. DH and I joked that had there not been that moment of quiet, we probably would have heard the door being kicked in since they couldn't get through to us on the phone Sullivan had called from (off the hook) and the cars were in the driveway, music was blaring, kids were yelling, etc. Now THAT would have been a story!

 I am glad it was nothing serious but I cannot imagine the shock you and your DH must have felt!

Oh boy! We had a similar episode awhile back. Kids were playing with phone, we heard a weird beeping sound (not the dial tone, something different) and two policemen came to our door. One of them had dialed 911! luckily they were super nice about it...toddlers and phones

This happened to us recently too! I came out of the shower the other day and I hear all 3 boys giggling while holding my cell phone. I go to take it away from them only to realize someone is on the line. It was the police department. I explained the situation and apologized. The lady was very nice about it and said she just wanted to make sure I was ok. The boys had already told her that mommy was in the shower and that we were getting ready to go to church. Hehe.
