i know there are lots of moms who would think this isn't much of an accomplishment, but these boys are our first and we've been totally intimidated by the idea of taking them out to a sit-down meal where we can't just run out and go home at the first sign of trouble. but yesterday i decided it was time, so we packed the boys up after their morning nap and we went to lunch. i bought their solids with us and fed them as we ate. and they were wonderful! they really seemed to have fun. jacob grinned at everyone he saw and owen ate his food without fuss or complaint. we didn't even need to rush, they were happy to sit in the high chairs and bang their toys on the table. and i think for owen it helped him to see us eating at the same time as him, because his food aversion was totally nonexistent, and then he ate his afternoon meal without complaint and this morning he ate double what i expected him to eat. you know what this feeling is? it's the feeling of sweet sweet freedom! maybe we'll get our lives back after all! :yahoo:
That is quiet the accomplishment! We have tried it once and we had to have the waiter box up our meal because it was not going well. You have give me hope. Thanks, jenn
:clapping: congrats! that's a huge accomplishment. our first sit down dinner we were so nervous we brought the grandparents along, just in case.
Awesome! We did that once when they were around 6 months old and kept them in their infant car seats. I wish we would have continued to do it because now I am terrified to try it with them at this age!
That is great!! We still have not done it. We talk about it but just decide to stay home, I know we should do it soon. I've actually taken them to a restaurant alone to meet a few girlfriends but never just me my DH and the girls. Good for you!!!
we went out to lunch yesterday, too! it was great to eat something that i didn't have to prepare and wasn't fast food!! i'm glad you had such a great experience!! and yes, the feeling of freedom is very very sweet!
:clapping: that's great! I'm glad it went well! We took our when they were about 3.5mths old and lets just say we were scarred for life by the whole experiance! Both babies had mega meltdowns and our food went cold so we haven't attempted since. Now that the girls are more easily distracted i might be brave and give it ago again.
Good for you! We've tried it several times and it was terrible>So I gave up, its take out or home cooked for a while!
QUOTE(piccologirl @ Jun 28 2009, 10:46 AM) i know there are lots of moms who would think this isn't much of an accomplishment, but these boys are our first and we've been totally intimidated by the idea of taking them out to a sit-down meal where we can't just run out and go home at the first sign of trouble. :umm: I dont know anyone that wouldnt think that taking twins out for lunch as much of an accomplishment. Heck at 2.5 years old, we still high-five on a successful outing with the kids. Great job. Keep getting out and it will be alot easier, less stressful, and fun (most of the time). :woohoo:
That's awesome, what fun for all of you! Doesn't it feel great to start sharing experiences like this with them, and to bring them out into the "real" world? We take our guys to the Coney every weekend for breakfast (for those of you not in Detroit, it's like a diner with Greek food), and they just started sitting in the "big boy seats" (highchairs). Before that we left them in their carseats. But we've never done a "real" restaurant; maybe I'll be brave enough soon.... Anyway, thanks for sharing, and I hope you have many enjoyable meals to come!
Ours have been out to 4 sit-down restaurants. I think it gets easier the more you take them out. For those whose babies are still in infant seats (ours use the ones that go up to 30 lbs) the chairs at Olive Garden hold the carseats.
