Well we did it! We had a false start in September. I told the kids we were giving the nite nites to baby Calin. When we arrived at my friends house DD says to me, " please dont make us give our nite nites to baby Calin." What do you say to that? So we waited.

Last week we got fed up with going to to rescue the nite nite so all week I told them we were going to give the NNs to baby Calin. I reminded them that they are not babies any more and NNs were for babies. I asked if Caillou and Clementine had NNs and they both said no.

Friday arrived and I said to DD, "do you rember what I said last night?" Gasp! (seriously she gasped!) She replied with a shocked look on her face, "I don't want to remember what you said last night."

They were given the NNs during story time then DH was ready with a paper bag, opened it up and told them to put them in for baby Calin. They both did so without a fuss, we sang our good night song and put them to bed.

They proceeded to cry for about 45 minutes and then fell asleep.

The next day at nap time DS didn't say a word. DD said "I want a pink NN." I told her Calin has them now. She proceded to throw a fit and didn't take a nap that day. DS was out like a light.

Last night DS said, "Nite nites"
DD, "we dont have them anymore brother. Baby Calin has them."

He did not protest and they both went to sleep.

They still look for the bowl they used to be kept in when they go to sleep but they know where they are and I think that gives them comfort.

    Next is big kid beds!

When I first read the subject line I thought...wow, you don't go to sleep anymore?? Teach me how to do that! LOL

Yay on getting rid of the paci so easily!

We did the same thing with our pacifiers ... we gave them to my sister's babies. It was so much easier than I expected. We had almost the same exchange that you did! Jake said "I need a binky!" and Hailey said "No, Jakey. We gave our binkies to Sami and Anthony. We are big kids now!"

Yeah for easily getting rid of binkies (or nite nites)!

Congratulations! I only have one that takes a binky and only in his crib...but I'm so afraid of getting rid of it. I know I have to bite the bullet and just do it. As with most things, the anticipation will probably be worse than the actuality.

Thanks for sharing your success story - it give me hope!

OMG, I NEEDED your post today!!!

I am DREADING the day we "give our puckies to a baby" which is coming up on December 26th of this year.

We have been telling the girls for MONTHS that when they turn two we are giving thier puckies to a baby because they will be big girls and big girls do not use puckies.
Well, they are two on 12.24 but DH and I are working on 12.25 and my MIL will be baby sitting that night so in all fairness to her we are waiting the couple of days till the 26th.

For a while Aviva was "ok" with the idea but the closer we are getting to their bday's the more she is understanding what is going to happen. Yesterday when I told her again she said "NNNOOOOOooooo no want to"

Delilah will eventually be fine with it but Aviva will have a m.e.l.t.d.o.w.n. or several. I am going to have to be very strong for a while because when they have a fit I crumble inside.

    Oh the agony of parenthood!!!!
