    Hello,

Now that I started giving my babies 2 meals a day and that I can give them water, I wonder whether I can give them water during their meal(which is the case now) or it should be before or after it??

    Thanks in advance.

I always gave my girls a sippy of water during the meal in the highchairs.

When I gave them water, I usually gave it to them in a sippy in their highchair after I fed them & they would play around with it (and maybe drink a bit) while I finished my own meal.

During the meal and a little more as they finish eating.

I have been giving my guys water after the meal in an open cup. Thats the only time they get water is after a meal. I did this with my first ds and by the time he was a year old he could drink from an open cup w/o spilling. I think it's easier to learn to drink from an open cup rather from a sippy cup. I do have 2 klean kanteen sippy's for my twins but they can't get the hang of it. One of my guys has learned how to drink from a cup tho!!

Quite impressive! At what age did your babies start drinking directly from cups?

I use the sippy cups with straws and my babies love them. I actually think it helped them learn to love plain water faster becuase they think it's fun to sip from the straw. I give them water during and after their meal and all throughout the day. It doesn't interfere with their formula intake so I figure if they love water, they should drink it. I say as long as it doesn't change the amount of food or formula/bm your babies are taking, any way you do it is fine.

My oldest started with the cup at 6 mos and by 11 mos, he could drink w/o spilling. It still took time to get it down and holding the cup himself but he eventually got it. My twins are starting to get the idea at 9mos. I haven't been teaching them at every meal like I did with my first ds but they get an open cup at least once a day. I hope to see them both drinking soley from an open cup by a year.
