i was just wondering what everyone does with their toddler twins when it comes to water safety - do you use life jackets? other flotation devices? swimming lessons? etc? i'm just looking to brainstorm some ideas.

With the exception of a toddler wading pool and the bathtub, I'm never alone with my kids around the water--my DH is with me if we're at a pool of at the beach. In the pool, we'll each hold one and at the beach we are chasing them around and following them everywhere.

I make sure they are never alone. We have a pool in our backyard (3ft deep) and during the summer, they only go in with two adults holding them. This year we will be buying the little floaties for them. When I am home alone, I will watch them in their baby pool. Last summer they did swim lessons and I hope to be able to do them again this year.

We have a baby pool and I am always with them when they are in it. In a big pool there are always 2 adults with them. I am considering putting them in swimming lessons this summer, too.

I saw swimsuits similar to these at Sams Club today. Not sure how well they work but I thought they looked neat.

I haven't been there with my twins yet, but I did have a 3yr old, 16mth old and newborn in the summer and we made it a rule that if there were not two adults present then the older two wore a lifejacket. No questions asked. It took til last summer (7, 5 and 4) for them to break the habit....

For our little men, they are in swim lessons. When we are on the boat, they are in their life vests from the moment they get on the boat. We have a baby pool in the backyard and they don't go outside without supervision anyway.

    We love the water!!

We do life jackets at the beach. I do the pool alone with all 3 kids (one swimmer). I teach them to stay near me at all times or they sit out. I believe that life jackets hinder how quickly a kid learns to swim and don't use them because of this. My DD was jumping off the high dive before her 3rd birthday and I'm hoping the twins have the same swimming ability and aren't afraid of the water. We will be doing swim lessons this year. I'm one of the minority that feels this way.

I am wondering something similar- I want to take my two to a baby/wading pool (23 months) this summer- how does that work? I will stay with them every minute and the first few times, will take another adult with me. Do i put them in floaties or is that only for deeper water. And do you only put them in swim diapers right before they go in the water? And any tips on how to manage the beach in terms of sun coverage- love rash guards but they seem so very hot! Can you tell i am a novice mom?

    Thanks for any help!

My girls have always worn life jackets, I just feel safer with those on them than little floaties on their arms or around their waist since they're not terribly familiar with the water. They were them wherever we go, whether it is to the pool, or to the lake.
