Has anyone heard that you need to take your own water to make formula when traveling? We are going to my parents in another state for New Years and my mother mentioned that maybe I should bring my own water from home to make the babies formula. I boil my water at home, if I do the same while away, do you think it will make a difference? Does anyone else do this?

I have never heard that. When we go some place for the day, I do take water already in the bottles. We just went to Florida for a week at the beginning of Dec. and I did not take water. We either used water from the tap or bottled water to make their own bottles. I think I have read on here that some water may taste different than others. My twins had no problems with the different water when we were in Florida.

ETA: If you are flying, I guess I assumed you were driving, then you will not be able to bring your own water unless you pack it in your suitcase and check it. When we flew to Florida I knew that mine would need to eat in the airport before boarding the plane. So I did put some water in a bottle and brought the powder. I mixed it right before going through security. You are allowed to bring baby food and formula, premade, through security in larger quantities as long as you are traveling with a baby. You just have to put them in the gray bins to go through security, powdered formula does not have to be put in the gray bins though. You can not take bottled water through security. You can purchase bottled water after you pass through security though. So if you are flying and want to take your own water you will have to pack it and check it with your luggage.

If you are traveling by plane, I would deffinately call your airline and see what their on board policy is with liquids. I just called mine to check. I know that my friend said that when she was traveling, they confiscated her bottle of water. Perhaps if it is sealed or already in the bottle they will allow it? You really should check with them so you don't have ANY problems when you get there. GL

When K&K were babies they had trouble with well water vs town water so I did bring my own water when we traveled to family that had wells. Could your parents purchase a case of bottled water or even a few gallon jugs for while you are there?

Are you flying? If yes, then definitely check the current TSA regulations. I believe formula if already made is ok and bottled water if purchased after the security gate is ok but things change very quickly in terms of regulations so I would confirm first.

    Have a safe trip!

If you are boiling it, then there is no issue. I never boiled it (there are too many minerals etc. in there that are good for the babies, so unless you don't have a good water supply you shouldn't "need" to...)
I think you can just do it the same there. Unless her water supply is unproven (which in a city - not a farm where they catch rainwater or something - is virtually unheard of).

Have fun and don't stress about the water! [IMG]

We generally take our own water with us. As for overnight trips, we've only been on one. For that we took our own water for the car ride (26 hours one-way!!!), and used the water at my in-laws when we got there. They have one of those Culligan jugs, so I used it.

Unless they're on well water, I wouldn't think you would need to. Well water can have bacteria that can make babies sick. If they've had it tested, though, well water should be ok. I'm not 100% sure on this, but I think boiling it would kill the bacteria.

I always use bottled water when I travele. We go to my Aunts in Ohio sometimes for a weekend, and her water is different. She has city water and so do we, but the water must have contained differnt minerals. The first weekend we went their with the twins, I didn't think anything of it and didn't take water, just planned on using the water that was there on tap. With in hours both babies had terrible diarehia (sp). I never thought it could be the water. My aunt suggested it, and we switched to bottled water the next feeding, and by the evening, they were diarehia free. It had to be the water??? So to play it safe, we just took bottled water or bought it there. HTH!
