    Hi

At what age have you started giving your baby drinking water? the Ped doesn't recommend it until a particular age! But I know some moms who do it. What about you?

Many thanks for your kind replies :) .

I started around 9 months when I wanted them to get used to sippy cups. They get enough hydration from their formula that they really don't need any more. My kids love it and sometimes I have to keep an eye on Jake b/c he drinks both his and his brothers cups of water and has overflowing diapers.

They get all the hydration they need from breastmilk/formula. They can actually be harmed by taking in too much water, especially when they are newborns. My ped says after they start solids you can offer them some if it's very hot, but mostly they get enough liquids from milk/formula.

I've been putting water in sippy cups and offering it to my boys over the last month or so, just to get them practice with the cups. They only drink maybe an ounce or so a day.

I just started offering it (at 6 months) with the dinner feeding. It's getting warm here and I don't think it hurts to get a little practice. As long as they are still getting enough formula I think it's probably fine.

The pediatric nurse told me that giving newborns excess water ( beyond what is used to FF ) can cause a buildup of fluid around the brain. She didnt say when it was safe to give it though.

I started at around 5 months when I introduced them to sippy cups. They never take much more than an ounce or two of water and still get all their milk bottles. I've never given them anything but milk in their bottles.

I was nervous about water intoxication (a woman here recently died of it and babies can be especially sensitive) so I asked our pedi first and got approval.

I didn't really give them water until they were off their bottles at 1 year. They say formula/breastmilk has all the water they need.

We started doing water sometime between 8-12 months. I cant remember exactly.
We also did it with sippy cups, and usually right after "meals".

I started putting water in sippy cups at about 5 months. We were out in the summer heat at Disney alot and I at least wanted them to have a sip or two of it on occasion.

We started when we introduced sippies here as well. This was around 7.5 months.. but they didn't get the hang of them [drinking more than spilling] until about 8 - 8.5 months. Now they LOVE their sippies. And with the weather as warm/hot as it's been, I'm glad they're able to keep even more hydrated than what the formula provides [seeing that their consuming less bottles these days].
