I probably don't care (as I'll not likely ever sell it), but is it possible the watch community will come around to recognize this generation as the product of an actual watch company (even if the "in-house" movement is made for them)? And re-price it accordingly?

Easier to justify if can pretend it's an investment...

I’ve picked up a couple from https://bestrolexfactory.com/product-category/rolex-submariner-replica/ and honestly, for the price, they look and feel better than I expected. The weight and finish are solid. I’ve worn one out a few times next to a buddy’s real Sub, and unless you're really studying it, no one’s calling it fake. Good option if you’re not trying to drop $10k+ just to wear a nice-looking watch.
