hi. I had my daughter over 8 years ago I know back then I used dreft to wash all her clothes. What are moms using now? I have a few bags of clothes from family members and I want to go through and wash them get them put away? Any suggestions?

Congratulations! We washed and continue to wash everything for the girls in All Free & Clear. It has no dyes or perfumes to irritate the babies. It is what our dermatologist recommended.

I second the All Free and Clear - I had washed all of our clothes in Dreft and my girls had bad reactions to it Once I switched to All the problems cleared up.

I bought Dreft b/c everyone said I "had to," but we have a front load washer and Dreft is too sudsy...so we switched to All Free & Clear and I love it. I wash everything in it so when we hold the babies, our clothes are perfume free, too. It's cheaper, too.

Dreft is full of perfumes. I second all free and clear, however, It gave ME a rash lol! I use a product from Trade Joes, all natural stuff.

Also, we know there is fermaldhyd (tricky word just dont know how to spell it!sorry) in clothes especially new clothes from the store. Adding a cup of baking soda to your wash helps to get rid of it. I found that helpful with getting rid of my daughters rash when she was a baby.

Vinegar can also be used a a fabric softner and does not leave behind any smell (just a little in the washing machine). add it like you would add regular fabric softner.

We used Kirkland (Costco store brand) Free, or whatever their "no dyes no perfumes" version is called. It was fine, though neither of my girls seem to have sensitive skin anyway.

We also went the Free & Clear route. That way the entire family could use the same detergent and it wasn't as expensive.

Anything that's scent and dye free will be fine.

I tried to do dreft, but when My MIL found that it wasn't getting the dirt out, she switched me to tide. Plain old tide. And it worked just fine for my twins.

    I use Dreft.
Was looking in to Free and Clear. Glad to hear it works too.
May try that instead next time. Dreft is pricey.

i bought "country save" from amazon, have not used it on dirty-dirty cloth yet but seems to be ok on everyday ones. having said that, i am still waiting for my twins to arrive to see their reaction to it, but supposedly esp. for cloth diapers country save is a good and inexpensive option.

Do you all use any fabric softener at all? We do use All Free and Clear and Snuggles but I am not sure if I want to use any fabric softener (since it could be irritant to baby's skin)?

We've used Purex (scented and not...whatever is cheaper) since they were born. We also use Bounce fabric softener sheets in the dryer. Never had a problem.

I use arm and hammer free and clear mostly, I bought purex free and clear this time since they were out of my arm and hammer. I have super sensitive skin that rashes easily so I figure if it's good enough for me, it won't bother the babies.

I used dreft with my ds for awhile, and the first loads of my dd's but never found it cleaned the clothes good enough once they started eating baby foods.

I also use bounce sheets and haven't had any problems with them, again I have sensitive skin and it doesn't bother mine :)

i've been using the vinegar instead of fabric softener and it works great. Plus babies don't like strong smells (remember that for your shampoo, soap and perfume) so the vinegar is great plus it cuts out the suds from the shampoo.

I also have a front load washer-good to know the All works well with these. I'll have to switch; Dreft is to pricey.

We have hard water and a front loader and finding a HE free and clear detergent was tough, plus they never go one sale. Through a friend who uses cloth dipes, I found out about Charlie's Soap. It's hypoallergenic, scent free, and it seems to do a great job getting out stains. You can only buy it online, but they don't charge shipping and one $15.00 bag lasts for 80 loads so it works out to be a pretty good deal.

I suggest Method Baby or any Free & Clear detergent. Method Baby is the same price as all the other Method detergents so it's a less expensive way to get that baby smell if you want that. Free & Clear can be used on everyone's clothes.

We use whatever is cheap (usually Purex) with no fabric softener.

None of my boys have ever had a problem........no separating the baby clothes out for us.......just wash all family clothes together.
