Hi ladies--my babies are a week old and averaging 3-4 oz per feeding (they are 8 1/2# each) Our Avent bottle warmer stinks, in my opinion, and I wondered what others have succesfully used just to get formula to room temperature. Thanks!

We used a crock pot, on all night to warm bottles at night. Daytime, I microwaved water and heated them in the water. Sort of following the no plastics in the microwave stuff here at our house whenever we can.

    HTH!

    I use the microwave [IMG]
the general rule of thumb is 5 seconds per ounce, but you will need to test your micro to see how it heats (some are hotter than others). if you go this route - make sure you shake it up well to prevent any hot spots.

That is a great idea! I just get hot water from the tap and keep putting hotter water in it after the previous water cools. It takes forever!

I forgot to add, my babies get pumped breast milk.

are you mixing your formula, or using ready made? When I'm mixing, I microwave the water. Like the pp, I don't microwave in plastics. I always check, since my microwave is old and doesn't always heat the same. The shaking from mixing takes care of hot spots.

When I used the ready made, I didn't find a way besides the bottle warmer. I think the crock pot idea is GREAT! Then also you don't have to heat 1 bottle at a time (if you only have 1 warmer like I do).

I use the microwave too! [IMG]

Just like pp, shake well and test on your wrist.

I heat a couple mugs of water in the microwave and warm the bottles in the water for a few minutes. It warms the formula but doesn't get too hot, kind of like the crockpot idea.

We use a cordless tea kettle to heat water quickly to boiling and then put the bottles in cups and pour the water in the cups. Only takes a few quick minutes to heat them up as the water is so hot out of the kettle.

We have the First Years warmer and like it alot. It does take longer to warm bottles since you are warming them one at a time, but it's still pretty fast. Couple of minutes max for both bottles.

I know my daycare uses the crockpot method. They have two of those insulated mugs and they dip out water from the crockpot and sit the bottles in each mug. They do this all day, so that method must be working for them...and they have a lot of kids who might be hungry at one time!

Just curious, but what about the avent warmer is causing the problem? Bottles not warm enough? Not fast enough? Bottles too hot?

Thanks for everyone's input. Avent doesn't seem to bring to room temp, formula is still COLD cold. I'm already trying out other suggestions!

Two 4 oz bottles, 30 seconds in the microwave.

same as pp, two 4 oz bottles take 30 sec in the microwave. Shake well. Never had a problem with the microwave ever. Oh, take the nipple off your cold formula bottles before microwaving. Don't want to burn their little mouths [IMG]

WE used the AVENT warmer and the first 4oz bottle was warmed for 5 min and the second for 3 min. This always got it to room temp or just above so that they could eat it. Around 2 or 3 months though we got to the point we didn't really warm. Now I just make each bottle it is easier and quicker than warming.
