With a thread title like this one how can you not look!

Since my boys were about 6 months, which is the time we did sleep training, we used both a sound machine and a lullaby cd. We put the sound machine on and that stays on all night and then the cd we push play when we leave the room and after it goes through once, it stops.

Every now and then they wake in the middle of the night, we go in, push play and they go back to sleep. We have to army crawl in there becuse if they see us, they freak!

The best though is if they wake at 5 or 6 am....I go in and push play and am guaranteed that they will sleep until 7:15-7:30.

We have been using the same cd since the beginning. I love it. It came with the Johnsons and Johnsons sleep gift basket (with all the lotions). Here is the website to the cd if you are interested. I often order it for people (friends/family) that had a new baby. I love the lyrics which is a plus ince our house is so small that when it is playing, I am forced to hear it!

I think they have become so used to it and when they hear it, it makes them sleepy! :lazy:

Thanks for the great Tip! I just had a thought, maybe you could get a cd player with a remote, my DD has one and it wasn't too expensive.

We do this too! At first it was the "music" to our rainforest swing, now it is a lullaby CD that goes for over an hour.

We do this as well. We have a speaker for our ipod ... so DH loaded in some Celtic lullabys and we put it on every night for them to go to sleep ... we have it on an endless loop and go in about an hour after they go to sleep to shut it off ... but you can have it play once andjust turn off when it's over ... I think it really helps them settle down ...

we actually use an IPOD! you can make a playlist & loop your music or white noise all night long. we hook it up to wireless speakers & wa-la! they have all sorts of white noise on Itunes (rain, water, ocean, etc.) we have LOST viewing parties on thursday nights...over 20 people come over so it gets pretty lively. they don't hear a thing with the white noise playing.

it has been wonderful! we take the little wireless speakers & our Ipod with us whenever we go out of town... works like a charm!

Thanks for the tips :) Will have to find a lullaby cd. The boys already love music. They got Baby Einstein music cds in their easter baskets and it keeps them content for about 15 minutes at a time...and that is great. Will have to try a lullaby one for sleep :)

We've been playing the same Disney lullabies CD for my older DD since she was 9 months old, every night and every nap time...she just loves it. At first, we had the CD player on repeat all night, and now we just play it through once. Although, she's old enough now to just get up and turn it on again if she wants, LOL.

But, what struck me about your post was that you use white noise and the lullaby CD at the same time -- we also have white noise for our little ones, but we turn it up so loud that you wouldn't be able to hear anything above it. This was recommended to us by a nurse -- she told us white noise isn't effective if it isn't loud enough to drown out other background noise....and, we took her advice, because my 4-year-old will often make a lot of noise just outside the nursery door, yet the babies can't hear it.

Seems to be working, as they sleep a good 12 hours at night, sometimes 13 -- and have been since before they were 4 months old!

Now that I write this, though, I'm wondering when we can turn it down a little, or switch to lullabies....I'm thinking when we put them in separate rooms!

Yeah, it is not very loud. I would say medium! One night we forgot to turn it on and they were fussing and fussing and would not fal asleep. They were about 14 months. I could not figure out what the problem was and then I realized the white noise machine was never turned on and the cd had finished so it was completely silent in there and they noticed! As soon as we turned it on, they fell asleep! I am sure the noise level is what they are used to. I wonder if our room was not as close if I would have turned it louder to begin with!

I'm going to try that! We have gotten in a REALLY BAD habit of rocking the boys to sleep every night. This is the ONLY way we can get then to sleep, and if we lie them down to soon the wake up so we have to start all over again! Maybe the music will break the habit!!!

    :rotflmbo: I'm picturing that!!

Great suggestions Nicole! We have a white noise machine too. I set it to the sound of the ocean, since I love that sound so it lulls me to sleep through the monitor too.

 A friend of mine used to have to army crawl into her DD's room for paci-reinsertion. I totally made fun of her for it and she just said "Just wait until you have kids!" And now I TOTALLY understand :)

Thanks for the great tip too!
