I've been meaning to post this question for awhile now, because I'm curious. Several months ago up until she started walking last month, my daughter's preferred method of getting around was by walking on her knees. It looked pretty uncomfortable, especially on hard floors. But that's just what she did. Sometimes she'll still knee walk over to something to pull herself up so she can walk. I'm not worried about it, just curious if anyone else's little ones did this? I just assumed it was a normal baby thing to do before walking. But so far everyone that comes over says they've never seen their babies do this.

She does like to copy me a lot, and I do catch myself doing this alot if I'm picking up toys or something. So maybe that's where she got it?

It is possible that she is copying you. I have found my DS copying me (he now wipes the floor with a paper towel). Tonight was the first night I noticed my DD walking on her knees. I was surprised to see her do it but she looked all proud of herself...so I guess it's a good thing?

It does sound like she's copying you. Maybe if she does this a lot, you can try something else like squatting and walking, which I'm not sure would be comfortable and she may just do that instead. If she's walking okay and just does the knee walking from time to time, I wouldn't worry about it.

My younger DD did this just before she started walking. We thought it was pretty funny -- I guess it's not that common? It only lasted a short time until she started walking well.

Both my boys did this for MONTHS! We thought it was funny, but started worrying after a while. They started walking around 14/15 months and still will walk on their knees occasionally.

DD does that... hardly crawls at all anymore, and she can't walk yet so that's how she moves. The physical therapist and early intervention didn't think much of it, just said it's something some kids do before they can walk.

A few days after DD learned to walk, our DS started "walking" on his knees... we thought he was just trying to do what she was doing, but on his knees since he had more balance that way. He finally figured out walking though and he doesn't do it much anymore, FWIW.

Amy did this (for about a month before she started walking for real) -- Sarah never did. As far as I know, it's normal. That's an interesting idea about her copying you, though -- I do knee-walk around the living room a lot while picking up toys. (All my jeans are wearing through at the knees even faster than they normally do.)

Daniel did this for a few months before walking. His twin brother sees 2 PT's weekly and when I asked them about it, they said it was completely normal.

Ruby does this too. She has no desire to walk yet and seems to be completely content to just walk around on her knees. Scarlet doesn't do it, but she also takes a few steps here and there already.
