My heart is still pounding. Five minutes ago Tom let out a blood-curdling shriek in his sleep. I totally over-reacted and probably woke him up - I think if I'd just put the paci back in instead of picking him up and squeezing him he'd have stayed completely asleep. But his face was all red and white and he sounded like someone was twisting his arm off.

Is this just a nightmare? Something random that happens? Something I can make better?

I still remember the first time that happened in our house maybe 3 months ago. Not only did one start shrieking but then the other must have been so startled that he kicked in too. Thank goodness my DH was home and not on travel. It totally made my heart skip a beat. I picked him up thinking something was really wrong and he was sound asleep in my arms still crying. I think it is just a random thing. It still happens here occasionally.

Addison does that every now and then and you would think that I would learn but I rush in and pick her up every time! I don't know why they do it but I have heard of others doing it too - it's probably just a reflex. ? it is so scary - the first time it happened here, we totally freaked out - and almost took her to the ER! She cried because I panicked and woke her up - I cried because I just knew something was terribly wrong and DH who normally thinks I over react was panicked! it was awful! finally she calmed down and went back to sleep !

Ana does it. We think she has night terrors since I have them (still at 32 even though you are supposed to grow out of it) and it is hereditary.

Danielle just started that this week; she will wake up and scream/sob like something awful is happening. So far she calms down in my arms.....i sure hope it doesn't continue!

DS has been doing that from the beginning, though less so now that he's older. He can go from sound asleep to blood-curdling screaming in an instant. Gas pains, nightmares, who knows? Very freaky though.

One of ours did this last night. He calmed back down right away, but the real problem was the other one. It woke him up, and he was scared about what was going on with his brother, so it took much longer to calm him down. Both were eventually right back to sleep though.
