Waking up in a pool of pee?

Since the boys learned to roll over onto their tummies, one of them insists on sleeping on his tummy all night long. Unfortunately for the last 4 nights around 3-4am he has been waking up and fussing just a little and when I have gone in to check on him his PJs are soaked and he is laying in a pool of pee. YUCK!! The next day I decided it was probably just time to move him up to the next diaper size. Still drenched. The third night I broke out the diapers two sizes up (just because we had them, and what the hey it couldn't hurt right?) It was a smaller pool, but he was still pretty wet as was the crib bedding. Last night I tried the 2 sizes up again and made sure they were cinched up tight (he is within the weight range, and they fit snugly around the legs, just huge in the waist - the tabs overlap a lot). Still up at 3am changing the baby, his clothes, and all the bedding... again...

Don't laugh, but in my sleep deprived stupor I was trying to figure out why we never had this problem when he was sleeping on his back and I realized that little boys "go" in the front of their diaper, and when they are on their backs as the front gets saturated gravity helps it move to the back of the diaper. When they are on their tummies while diapers are super absorbitent they don't wick up the back against gravity, right?

I have tried rolling him onto this back - he refuses to stay put. The sleep positioner is a joke these days - he rolls right over the sleep positioner like it isn't even there. It took some practice, but he has perfected it in about 2 seconds flat, now. So what are we supposed to do? Some trick I haven't tried? We feed him, and about 45 minutes later change his diaper right before we put him to bed - it's not like he is going to bed in a wet diaper already. And it's only 7-8 hrs later - I know it must be possible for kids to get a full 12 hours sleep in one diaper, right? Please tell me I am not going to be changing the entire bed every night from now on?

Maybe try a different brand of diaper?

We had been having that problem too. Someone had given us a bunch of leftover diapers, various brands and sizes. So we did like you, and started one size up, and then two. The two size up one worked fairly well, but not entirely, so we started brand hopping. We wound up with Luvs, which I normally don't like, but hey, they're keeping the pee in all night!

I am having the same problem with both my babies b/g, I use size 2 pampers swaddlers and they are plenty big enough-both of mine are tummy sleepers. I thought maybe (and this may be totally stupid) I should try putting the diaper on backwards because maybe the back side would be more absorbant! Havent tried it yet-not sure what to do! I will be watching this thread!
Hope someone has a good suggestion-I am sick of changing entire outfits in the middle of the night and washing sheets every day.

I feel your pain!! We tried several brands of diapers and continued to have problems. For overnight we used the next size up from what they were using during the day. That worked for a while. However, now we use diaper doublers (avail. at BRU, Target, Walmart, grocery store). They are like a sanitary pad that fits in the diaper for overnight absorption. They are very inexpensive (like $3 for 30, I think). We haven't had a problem since we started using them. Good luck!

I had the same problem with my oldest DS and I just had to change to huggies supreme over the regular huggies (just for night time)… then when he was a bit older they had “nighttime” diapers (don’t know if they still have those… it was a while ago) and we had to use those for YEARS!

14 hours for Thomas as well and we used the Kirkland diapers with no issues. I always pointed his wee wee down and had no issues

I agree with pps...it may be the brand of diaper. I had horrible luck with Huggies but did well with Pampers Cruisers. I'm assuming you point it down too!

Pampers Baby Dry here too! And ditto PPs' comments about pointing his wee wee down. G/L!

We are currently using Pampers swaddlers size 2 during the day (and will probably go ahead and move to the 2-3's next time I pick up a mega box). At night we are using the Size 3 Pampers cruisers. Never heard of the diaper doublers, maybe I will see if our store carries them. I will also look while I am at the store tonight and see if anyone makes an overnight diaper in their size. I didn't know they much such a thing. Thanks!

are you making sure his little dangle is pointed DOWN?
Also, look for a product called "diaper doudblers" I swore by these inserts for nighttime for all my kids.
Tom Thumb/Randall's carries them here in TX.

Huggies makes an overnight diaper that starts in size 4. I have had good luck with those. My girls have always been tummy sleepers and always soaked thru until I bought these. They have them at Target and Walmart. They are a little more expensive then regular diapers, but you only have to use one a night :)

well I only have girls but I put Huggies size 3 during the day and at night they wear a size 4, no leaks. However one time my DH got the Albertson's brand diaper and every morning we were soaked, so I think changing brands might help you.

I would definitely try and go up a size at night. And if that doesnt work you can also add a "diaper double" which looks like a maxi pad that will help give some extra absorbancy. I also LOVE, LOVE Huggies Overnites!! We are still in them!

I have been having this prob for MONTHS and could not find any diaper doubles online or in stores and have instead been using overnight maxi pads ;) Crazy but 95% of the time they work and we have no leaks!

Ok, I have a dumb question--Why would you go up a size at night? So if I am using Pampers Swaddlers 2-3 during the day I would use Cruisers 3 at night or Pampers Baby Dry at night?

It's probably a good idea to make sure his squirt gun (if you catch my drift) is pointed DOWN. It also wouldn't hurt to try a few different brands of diaper to see if you could find something that fits him better.

The idea behind the bigger size at night would be more absorbancy since technically you arent changing their diaper as frequently as you would during the day, KWIM?

We have the same problem but I use a size bigger at night and that seems to be what works for mine.

The only thing that we have found that works is Huggies overnights in a bigger size. He wears a 4 during the day and a 5 at night. Also I be sure to put the diaper way high up in the front and he makes it 13 hours without leaking. It must be a boy thing b/c I have NEVER had an issue with DD's diaper leaking.

They do make a huggies overnight size 3 but they are hard to find in the store, I order them off of diapers.com for DD

This is a boy problem. We had this issue with our son, but never with our girls. We changed from Huggies to Pampers and that fixed the problem, but since you use Pampers already, maybe you should try Huggies?
