After wondering and worrying for months, I finally decided to get Aidan a speech evaluation through EI. I had the intake appointment this morning. I know the service coordinators are using to hearing all kinds of things, but I felt so bad when I had to answer "no" to her questions. (Does he follow commands, does he point to objects if asked, does he recognize/look at family members when their name is spoken, does he stack three or four blocks, etc.)

He should get his evaluation in 2 weeks, and if he has a 30% delay, then he'll qualify for services. With our income, we'd pay $50 a month for services. But the service coordinator said that she thinks our insurance might pay for some therapy services too.

I know this is a common road for a lot of us, but it's still scary and hard to actually go down it. I keep wavering between hoping he doesn't qualify and hoping that he does.

 Good luck with the evaluation. I'm sorry you are having to go down this road but hopefully it will help your little boy. (If he needs it.) You are doing the right thing.

Yes, way to go!! This is so important! It is also hard. I know I felt I did good with my babies growing up but they both qualified for speech. The help has improved their vocabulary and behavior. Here though, it has been free.

I've done speech with 2 kids. THe first I was in denial over..... but what an improvement speech made. It is good to get speech in the early years if you qualify. I hope the best thing happens for you.
