Do you give your greater than 2 year old daily vitamins?

We have given our DD a daily multi-vitamin since she was 2 as per our Ped. The same Ped says that the boys dont NEED them since they drink tons of milk and eat lots of fruit and vegetables. Yet, I feel like they "need" them.

    What do you do?

I was told they don't NEED them, unless they don't eat well on certain days, but I just give em anyway since they can't really hurt. THey like to take them when I take my prenatals in the morning.

We give ours a daily multivitamin with fluoride added. Much to my surprise...they actually like the taste and look forward to it! :p

Yes, Emilie and Trevor take a My First Fintstones everyday. They actually ask for it, since they like to hear the crunch it makes. It's a smaller version of the Flintstone vitamin and made for 2 and 3 year olds. :good:

My children do not take a viatamin everyday, but I have bought a bottle once, and a friend gave me a bottle that her child didnt like, so they have taken them before, but I do not give them everyday.

I had to vote "other" (sorry :D ). We give our kids vitamins, but not multi-vitamins. The ped said they don't really need those, even though they are pretty picky eaters -- but he did recommend a vitamin D supplement to help their calcium absorption. Then we also give them omega-3's and an "immune booster" consisting of vitamin C, zinc, and echinacea.

My kids drink a lot of milk (they go through a 1/2 gallon every 2 days), they eat at least 3 servings of organic fruit and veggies daily, lots of nutrigrain bars, no junk food, no fast food, lots of whole grains, rice, etc and we still give vitamins. They get Vit C in the mornings and a multivitamin in the evenings.

we buy the ones from Costco that are sugar free chewables...they love them. Alyssa gets a whole one and Parker gets a half. Huge bottle that was super inexpensive.

My pedi said that we don't need them as well unless they are missing something in their diet. We've never given my boys vitamins, but they eat veggies, fruits, meat, milk, basically everything we give them.

I marked "Yes", but in a way my answer is also "No".

We do supplement their diet with additional nutrients, but I don't give them isolated vitamins. I give them additional fruits and veggies in a capsule called Juice Plus. It is great stuff - doctor recommended and written in numerous medical journals showing just how it can improve your health. If you want more info, here is my website: Juice Plus+

I used to work for a chain of health food stores for several years, and this is the one product that really stands out above the rest.

    HTH.

I actually just asked our pedi about this at their 2 year WBV.

He said if we felt like we "should" then go ahead, but it's really very much individual family preference. As long as they're eating a varied diet, he doesn't think it's that big of a deal (just one more thing to do!)

My girls pretty much live on a wide variety of fruits and veggies, so I've opted not to at this point.

I'm more concerned about protein intake vs vitamins for my two, and they can't get that from a multivitamin :D ! And that's probably not as much as of an issue as I think it is, they just tend to go to non-meat sources for their protein.

We do the vitamins with flouride also. But if we didn't need to do that, they would get a Flintstones.

I bought the Costco size mulit vitamins and my girls get whole ones and my son gets a half (my dh also gets a whole one too). I don't give them vitamins every day but I do give it to them maybe 3 times a week (I forget sometimes to give it to them). They all have their days of not eating and eating great so I don't worry to much about giving them their vitamins. They aren't much of vegtable eaters so I know they need a little extra sometimes.

I am one of the Others vote. We have vitamins but there are days when I forget to give them one. Our pedi said we didn't have to give vitamins to the girls but it makes me feel better.

I give them a flinstone gummy vitamin with dinner almost every night. Some nights I forget. DS is a pretty picky eater, so the pedi recommended a vitamin for him, and well, what you do for one you must do for the other, right? I give them their vitamin and I take my multivitamin with added calcium with them.

well, since I was clearly in the minority and it can't hurt them and I take one every day, I decided to start giving them vitamins, they LOVE them, lol.
