I take a prenatal every day, but I'm nervous I'm not getting enough vitamins from what I eat plus the vitamin. Is it ok to take 2 prenatals a day? Does anyone do that? Does it really benefit you?

i dont take 2 prenatals but they have me taking folic acid as well as im suppose to start taking fiber and calcium pills as well on top of my regular prenatal. so all together i am taking like 5 pills a day because i take terbutaline as well. i would just as ur ob or a pharmacist at a local drug store to see if there is any other forms of vitamins you could take.

I wouldn't take 2 prenatal vitamins without asking your dr. first. some of the vitamins and minerals can be toxic to your babies if you take more than what is recommended. I don't mean to scare you, but I wouldn't mess around with vitamins even if you weren't pregnant too many vitamins in excess can be dangerous. Vitamin A taken at higher than recommended doses is one that comes to mind, it can cause certain birth defects. Be careful and check with your doc, if you are worried about vitamin intake try to get it through your diet. There are certain foods that contain vast amounts of vitamins and minerals without causing harm to your body. You can find this in many pregnancy books or on line.

As PP said, taking 2 full pre-natals, especially some of the bigger potency ones, may give you too much of certain vitamins. I am taking a iron+folic acid supplement in the morning on an empty stomach, a Omega 3/6/9 pill in the afternoon, and then a pre-natal in the evening. Had bloods taken last week and my consultant didn;t believe I was a vegetarian, my blood results came back so good :)

Thanks :) I will talk to my doc. I was concerned about the calcium especially since my nails have been breaking! My nails NEVER used to break. But, when I look at how much calcium I have, it seems like it's ok. Then of course that got me worrying about other vitamins! :)

This is similar to what I took minus the extra iron and fiber. I've read that a woman expecting twins took two prenatals during her pg and after while she was bf.

The prenatal multi-vitamins I have are two pills daily-I only take those two, however I do take an extra folic acid, iron, and omega 3-since I have two babies...my doctor said this is fine. I drink lots of milk so my calcium should be fine.
All vitamins are different-just take you bottle in to your next visit and let the doctor see the daily amounts you are getting.
