My pedi. said that babies should take vitamins, but I thought that they received everything they need from formula. Do you give vitamins to your babies?

I'm sure every pedi. is different, but our pedi. said the boys needed vitamins because they're breastfed. He said the formula provides what they need, but with bf they're usually lacking vitamin D.

We were instructed by the NICU and our pedi to give vitamins daily to our boys, but keep in mind they were very premature. They have been primarily formula fed since birth due to low BM supply. I did, however, stop giving them vitamins w/ iron a couple of months ago, and the pedi thought that was ok and says that regular vitamins are fine at this stage. I do intend to ask when we are supposed to stop giving them vitamins though because no doctor has ever said.

Ours were on polyvisol with iron until they were a year old. They were also premature and had low hemoglobin counts, so they needed the extra iron until their hemoglobin levels came up.

We were just put on polyvisol vitamins. Our pedi wanted them to have the flouride b/c we use well water. Sounds like everyone takes them for different reasons, but I'm gald to know there are quite a few out there who are taking vitamins under a year old. I was a little concerned.

    Polyvisol is recommended here too.

We are on Polyvisol for one LO after a low iron test. The other is not on it. Basically, our pedi said since we are starting formula (at that time it was 9 mos) they should get everything they need. I wished I had started them sooner though - they were BF and one seemed to lack energy the last few months. The Polyvisol has made the difference.

I was told to give the Tri-vitamin drops because I am breastfeeding and he needs the vitamin D. I despise giving him the vitamins though because he gags horribly and usually ends up spitting them right back up.

Ditto, we are using the Baby D Drops (see below).

This is precisely why I use the Baby D Drops, they are one drop on your breast or in the formula and done, its awesome!! No more gagging and choking and barfing its wonderful! We have a few pharmacies in town that carry them (not prescription but you have to ask for them) and the rest only carry the older style drops.

I had to give my one guy vitamin E, D and iron and they were mostly formula fed. We ended up cutting out the iron because they were so miserable on it! I still keep on with the vitamins.

Funny, I found these a pain, because they slid off averything (pacifier, bottle nipple)due to the oil in them so I can't wait to use them up and go with the other stuff :) I am using the vitamin D and iron supplements. Even though they are on formula my Pedi said to keep up with it until they are eating enough solids to get the iron and the vitamin D is good for them.

No, I did not give my infants vitamins. I do give my toddler/preschooler/older kids a multi.
