    Hi Everyone!
My mom is DRIVING ME CRAZY about giving the twins a vitamin! She says they need to be taking one. She's always on it about something about them it's either the vitamiins or it's too cold in our house..which we live in FLorida and it's 90 degrees outside! But, when we had our 1 year check-up they said nothing about them needing one. I should just call the office and talk with the nurse because our next appt isn't until Nov.!
Are you giving yours one? If so what kind?

    Thanks!

I believe at that age mine were getting a liquid vitamin prescribed by thier ped. They now take the same thing as a chewable.

No vitamins here... my pedi never mentioned it, and my girls eat pretty healthy. I figured at their 18 month appointment I'd ask for an opinion from the pedi on whether taking one would be a good idea.

I asked at both the one year and 15 month and was told there are varying opinions on the need for vitamins. My particular ped asked about the boys eating habits, how much, what, etc, and based on that said that it didn't sound like we needed one right now. Of course, every ped/child is different.

My girls have taken one since infancy, like PPs because our water isn't fluoridated.

My girls have never taken vitamins. As long as they have a well rounded diet, my ped doesn't feel it's necessary. Natalie takes trivisol, but that's only because I'm nursing.

I just called my pedi on friday about Annabelle-they are both in daycare thursdays and fridays and pretty much like clockwork, come monday, annabelle has a fever of some sort, usually lowgrade and not long lasting. I was concerned about it but when I spoke to the nurse she said she probably has low immune system and perhaps pick things up easier than others-especially if she's lacking something in her diet. Long story short(er), she mentioned that 2 yrs old is a good time to start giving vitamins. Being up on the east coast where we are fast approaching fall and winter and flu season, I figure it cannot hurt.
all 3 of my girls love the Flintstones gummies and I keep them high, but in sight so they remind me every morning!!

I started vitamins at 9 months when one of them tested borderline low for iron. They eat well but I take a multivitamin myself so I give them one too -- something like insurance.

I didn't start my guys until almost 2years old and it was out of desperation due to all the colds and EI's they were getting. So I started them on a multi vit, extra vit c and some Fish Oil chewables. This summer they have only been taking the multi but I'm going to start back with the extra Vit C and Fish Oil pretty soon.

Our PED recommended we take one as an insurance policy. Toddlers diets are so unpredictable she thought it was a good idea.

We also take a probiotic supplement which has pretty much stopped us from getting sick. YEAH!

They also get a DHA supplment in their milk each morning.

I started the kids on one at around a yr and a half if I remember right. Vites are only good for you so it won't hurt.
Now Josh takes a whole foods immune booster since he seems to get sick easiest, a probiotic which helped him against EI's (it was a miracle, as soon as he started those he hasn't had one I believe), and a multi vite.
Sean takes a probiotic and a multi vite. He doesn't get sick as much and when he does his body seems to fight through it pretty good.

While I do agree that every child is different, in my mind, it never hurts them. My girls are extremely healthy, hardly ever been sick, they eat fresh, whole, organic fruit everyday for lunch and snacks, and organic veggies daily as well (as well as all liquids are organic, and 90% of their diet) They have never had any fast food, favorite food is rice, overall they eat a very well rounded diet. Our doctor said the same thing that yours did, but I felt that a little extra "boost" wasn't going to hurt. It has vit C which is a biggie (boosts the immune system) and fluoride free (another biggie for me). I didn't start them on it until recently. Not for any particular reason, just felt it was time. To each your own I guess :pardon:.

Our girls took Poly Vi Sol for about the first year...it was a struggle to get them to take it. At about 15 months the pedi recommended 1/2 of a chewable, such as the First Flinstone vitamin, for each DD. They love the Flinstone vitamin and once a day it is a good distraction for when they get whiny;)

Yep. A multi-vite, probiotics, fish oil, and extra vit C.

The multi-vite is just insurance, as others have mentioned. And I really think the other stuff helps keep them healthy...

That's what they took too up till our 9 month check up and they told us since their iron level was good that we didn't have to give it to them anymore.
So, that's why I'm confused! I feel like that they should be getting something and I totally forgot to ask at our 1 year visit because I was in a fluster about the shots they were to get and the pedi telling me that I could only delay them til the 15 month visit.

Thanks Again everyone for the help!
