I haven't posted in a long time. My twins are 4 and a half, but I hope you don't mind my asking a question about my singleton. This is the best site for questions!

My four month old has very dry cheeks. They are very red and sore looking. I have tried Eucerin and Aquaphor, and neither seems to work. Any other ideas?

Hey Megan, how great to see you!! I was going to suggest aquaphor but guess that is a no go. Sorry I don't have any great ideas although I did see a lotion in the baby isle at the grocery store that was for exscema (sp?) in babies. Maybe that would help? At any rate, I couldn't help saying hello, hope you are doing well! Congratulations on the new addition!

I was also going to suggest aquaphor. The only other thing I can think of is maybe the Aveeno lotion, we use the bath stuff for my girls for dry skin and it helped maybe the lotion will work for you. You could also call your doctor to see what they suggest but most likely they will want you to come in to be seen. I hope you find something that works my sons cheeks are starting to get try and we're going to try the aquaphor.

We have the same problem with one of my daughters. I usually use vaseline and it seems to help. We recently started the aquaphor, but it doesnt seem to work as well as just vaseline.

I use cetaphil lotion on my babies' faces. It really seems to help. My pedi said not to use vaselline consistently on their faces b/c it can clog up their pores. He said to use it if I was taking them outside (b/c it's very cold here) to protect their cheeks. I am hoping that our dry cheeks problem will go away when the cold weather leaves....good luck!

Oh, I forgot to add that running our cool mist humidifier has helped their cheeks. Since I have started running it overnight(b/c one of my girls has RSV) when I go in to get them in the morning their cheeks aren't as red and raw looking. Maybe try this too!

perhaps you can ask to have this post linked to the 1-5 board ...? I'm having the same issue and was thinking of posting on the 1-5. Thanks!

I have had better luck with Eucerin creme versus Aquaphor. I think the cream has better staying power, too.

Berkley has the same thing and I, like everyone else use Aquaphor but at nighttime I also put some Target Brand Hydrocortisone cream just on her cheeks and she wakes up with no redness at all. I like the Target brand cause, #1 it's cheap and #2 it only has hydrocortisone and petroleum in it...no alcohol, etc....

Another who was going to suggest the Aquaphor. Since that didn't work for you I've found the Arbonne Oil in the Baby line to work pretty well and I put the Arbonne Baby Lotion right on top of the oil.

I was also going to suggest Eucerin and Aquaphor...

Have you tried Aveeno Baby lotion? It helps as well...

My thoughts are if you can't find anything over the counter, you may have to get something prescription strength.

We have used A&D ointment as well as some cheapy diaper rash cream that is aslo for chapped skin that my mother found at Rite Aid. It's in a container like vick vapor rub only its white and i think it's really just called diaper rash cream. Go figure. anyways, A&D worked for us.

there is a moisturizing stick made by "gerber" called 'Grins and Giggles'. I put it on my boys face when they have red dry cheeks.

Aquaphor and a humidifier running downstairs 24/7 has made a huge difference for us. [IMG]

I use creamy vaseline on my daughter's cheeks. She reacted with other lotions, including aquaphor and bizzarely, the vaseline seems to work.

Mine get this as soon as the Winter weather sets in and it is a constant battle until Spring. Ours is not eczema but some babies do get eczema rashes on their faces in which case you would want to get a recommendation from the pediatrician. The doc looked at our boys' cheeks last Winter and told us it was dry skin and to use Vaseline at bedtime. This controls the problem pretty well. A humidifier helps too. They have it again this Winter but I was able to start treating it immediately and it hasn't gotten as bad this time.

Oh, and mine broke out from Aveeno Hypoallergenic Baby Lotion but not the good old Johnson's pink stuff. So, if one thing doesn't work, try something else. There are a zillion moisturizers out there.

I use a moisture stick on mine. Johnson's Naturals has one that looks like a little mini deodorant stick! Gerber also makes one called teeny faces I think that looks like a big chapstick. I've used both and they both work well for the super dry cheeks. You can use them for lips too. HTH [IMG]

There is also a Cetaphil creme that I find very handy for the dry, scaly cheeks!

Thanks, too, for all the congrats and welcomes. I had a boy, Conor, on Sept. 28th. Now if I could only figure out how to put another name on my sig line...
