    Help?!?!?

I woke up this morning with my first veracious vein. ....not spider veins, which I hear might disappear after the birth, but a huge veracious vein about 12" in length on the back of my thigh.

Is there something that can be done to prevent these??
Or am I just genetically doomed!

    I eat well.....I think
    Wear flat or tennis shoes.

I rest and try and keep my feet somewhat elevated.

    I am only 25 weeks....should I expect more?

    Any thoughts or experiences?

I am curious about this as well ... I have one - and not to be too graphic, but it is not on my leg, although it is below the belt. I am absolutely mortified. It is uncomfortable - doesn't hurt, just gross. I don't think support hose help in that region - any other ideas?

Varicose veins are, unfortunately, very normal in pregnancy, even more so with twins. I have a varicose vein on the back of my right knee. I find it so ugly that I'm trying to wear clothes that are long enough to hide it.

I asked my doc about what I can do to make it go away or at least go down, and he said there wasn't much that can be done at this stage except resting frequently and sleeping and resting on your left side as much as possible, but that they should go away after delivery. If they don't, there is now cosmetic surgeries that can be done to remove them afterwards.

Not only are they ugly, but they can be painful, itchy, and hot. And, we can get them in the naughty bits, which is very disconcerting. It's just all the pressure and poor circulation.

    Hang in there!

I'm glad you brought this up!! I'm not sure the difference between spider and vericose veins---I just hope these dark places popping up all over my legs and abdomen eventually go away!! Not painful, just annoying!

I'm not sure about how much the varicose veins go down after pregnancy, but I know that the small, spider veins typically stick around. My dad is a retired dermatologist and said the spider veins are easy to get rid of once this is all over - years ago I had mine injected (didn't hurt at all)... not sure what they do now... either injections (or maybe lasers?). Another sacrifice to twin pregnancy...
