Varicose Veins

Hello Ladies!

I am one those "lucky ones" who suffers from pregnancy induced varicose veins (they disappear after pg thank goodness!)
Anyone else suffer from this and did you find anything helps? I tried the compression stockings last pg with my singleton pg and found no difference.

It's only on my rt side as that's where my DD laid all the time. The worst is I have it on my rt vaginal lip (outer). It's like 4x the size of the left vaginal lip and extremely painful when I stand and the blood rushes there.

I asked my dr if he could refer me to a vein specialist to see if there's any short term thing they could do to help alleviate the pain and he said no, there isn't anything.

Anyone else have any tips/experience with this?

 

I have a bad on in my right leg but was never super painful. Last time they told me just to keep my feet up. You have it in a much worse area. So sorry.

 

I feel your pain :hug: . Had this experience while NOT being pregnant for no other reason than a genetic roll of the dice...now while pregnant I just have major aching/throbbing/pain/discomfort in my left labial/groin/thigh area.

Are you wearing the full maternity compression that goes from toes over the big baby belly?? With compression being at least 20-30 mmHg??

What I have found to help is to wear the full maternity hose [have to diligently put them on right away in the morning after a quick shower] with an ice-pack applied to the groin when I am sitting with my legs up [I have 4 McDavid 'dedicated-to-the-groin-area' reusable ice-packs ($3.49 each?) so a really cold supply is always available]. Usually I wear the ice-pack between the outside of hose and a pair of sweatpants...if it is a really uncomfortable day on my feet then the ice pack goes between the underwear and the hose.

This funny looking brace came highly suggested by a L&D nurse for use during pregnancy...I think the OB can write a prescription so the cost is covered by insurance.

Cool sitz baths and cool swimming pools have also been suggested. Of course this is just my experience and definitely talk with your doc before trying new things! Hope you can find some reprieve!!

 

Thank you! My OB suggested wearing lyrca supportive underwear to keep everything held in tight. I was going to try to find some at a special store where I got my compression stockings.
I wore the compression stockings for my last pg and did not notice a difference at all for my groin area (but perhaps it helped my legs, although it didn't visually look like it!)
That supportive brace might just be the trick! eek, expensive though eh! I will see if they have them at the special store, and if they are covered by my drug plan! Thanks so much for the tips!

 

OMG, the super supporter prenatal cradle brace IS SO expensive. Women just swear by it in the reviews and in person. I ordered one online - sized according to the manufacturers guidelines and it was just too big with zero support (measurements with pregnancy fell between a size small and medium, so I ordered a medium...I could have exchanged and tried a small...alas I did not).

I wanted to add that my SiL had really bad varicose veins from her rt. upper thigh to rt. labia for her last pregnancy...hated maternity hose but loved these knee highs (also pricey but SO worth it)...any type of compression from below helps to ease the baby pressure above sort of idea. She still wears them every day despite no longer being pregnant.

Lycra underwear! I visualize Wonder Woman and smile :laughing: . Awesome!! I would love to hear how those work out.
