Hi! Just wondering if any of you ever experienced this and had a healthy twin pregnancy?

After suffering 2 years of secondary infertility, I am finally pregnant again after my first round of injects (Follistim with HCG trigger)! At our first u/s last week (I was 6w3d) we saw three sacks. One was very very small and empty, the one next to it was the largest and had a beautiful little bean with a very strong heartbeat, then there was a sack underneath that one that was a size between the other two with what looks like a little bean in there - but no heartbeat.

My RE said that he couldn't say that I WASN'T having twins, but that it was right on the cusp of seeing/not seeing a heartbeat and we may see the second baby's beating at our next ultrasound, which isn't until I'm at 8w0d. The wait is killing me and I'm not coming up with much on internet searches. I suppose I'm just looking for some positive stories. At first I really felt like both of the other babies weren't goign to make it and I was just so overjoyed at seeing a little heartbeat I couldn't think of anything else! However as the days have gone on, I find myself thinking of the other bean and praying that he/she makes it. I'm just afraid of being completely heartbroken.

Just to show you want I mean, here is my u/s picture:

Thanks so much in advance for any info!

I am 9 weeks today with twins. This is the first time I'm posting on this board. I had a similar experience happen to me. I went in at 6 weeks, 2 days to have my first u/s. We saw 2 sacs, but nothing in them. She thought she might see a yolk sac in one, but wasn't sure. I went back at 7 weeks, 4 days and there were 2 strong heartbeats. I was a complete wreck waiting that week. They wanted me to come back at 8 weeks, but I couldn't wait and they let me come in earlier to make me feel better. There is still a chance that you are having twins. Please try not to stress out. I know that is way easier said than done. Maybe they'll let you go in a little earlier. Keep us posted on your next u/s. I'm thinking of you!

I personally think you have a pretty good chance of seeing a second hb. Obviously no one is going to be able to come on here and tell you for sure. There's no guarantee on anything unfortunately. I had an early u/s this time around at 5 weeks 3 days, for bleeding. Saw an appropriate sized sac, but not even a fetal pole. Was told that there wasn't much point to do another u/s prior to 7-8 weeks b/c there is just no guarantee that you will see a hb then. Thankfully at 7.5 weeks we saw our hb. On the other hand, my dh's cousin who did IVF had the sad story...where they had 2 sacs, 2 fetal poles, 1hb around 6 weeks...and then had a second u/s a week later to see if both hbs would show just to find out that they had no hbs.... they would have been thrilled to pieces just to have the one hb, but sadly it didn't work out. So I think it's good to temper your worry/excitement over two babies, with at least the focus that you've got one little baby cooking in there...and hopefully things will turn out great and you'll wind up with a bonus!! The waiting really does stink. I would try to keep busy with anything not baby related! Pick up a few really long books (and no baby or pg books!!) to occupy your time for the next week or so!!

WOW!!!!!!!! That is almost exactly my story. The only difference is that we were told at the first u/s that they were sorry, there just wasn't anything there and went back a week later to talk about what to do and BAM two heartbeats.

around 6w, we saw 1 sac and 1 hb, 7w 2 sac and 2hb. The first sac was probably there at the first ultrasound but the doctor didn't see it because he wasn't looking for multiples. (no meds)

my 6w1d u/s looks like your 2 beans - we didn't have a 3rd sac...baby a (which we figured out to be my son as he was always approx 2-3 days bigger than his sister) had a hb, but baby b had a fetal pole and no hb at that time...at 7w3d they both had hb's...

if I were a betting woman I'd say you're having twins!

Oh thank you all SO much! You've answered in a few replies what I couldn't find in hours of searching online. My lovely DH says I just need to stay away from the computer because it's making me crazy - but honestly while there is absolutely no guarantees, sharing your experiences has given me a lot of hope for that little bottom one. My ultrasound is next Monday so I will definitely update here as soon as I know! (((HUGE HUGS))) to all of you. Thank you again for sharing your stories.

0h, the waiting is AWFUL. Your dh and previous poster are right; try to distract yourself (MUCH easier said than done)

at about six weeks we had two sacs and two hb's. Went back ten days later and there was one empty sack - and TWO hb's in the other. So it seemed like we had a set of ID twins and another one which had vanished. I ended up delivery healthy ID girls.....Good luck to you. If it doesn't turn out the way you want it sounds like you've got one thrving bean in there and s/he will be a joy.

    keep us posted!

We also saw three sacs at 5w1d and they were all completely empty - no sign of anything; but one sac was smaller than the other two. I didn't go back until 7w1d and then we saw three sacs, two with heartbeats and the third hadn't grown . . . same at 8w1d . . . I go in again at 10 weeks to see what's there . . . we're praying that we still have a heartbeat and hopefully still two! I'll feel better when we hit 12 weeks!

I went in at 6 weeks and saw two sacs, only one hb-so they scheduled another sono for two weeks to check the other sac and there were two hb's at 8weeks-
I am holding out hope for you! That second sac looked like it had a little something in it so hopefully it will catch up with the other larger one and you will be all set for twins! Good luck!

We saw one bean with a strong heartbeat and one very small, empty sac at 6weeks4days, the doctor said the empty sac had almost no chance. 2 weeks later there were 2 healthy beans with heartbeats. Baby B measured about a week behind until our 20 week u/s when she caught up.

    Good luck!

Congratulations on your pregnancy! I had a friend with a similar story to yours and she ended up seeing two heartbeats at the next u/s. :) While the baby with a strong heartbeat is almost certainly here to stay, there is no guarantee on the second sac. If the second sac does not develop a heartbeat, it is unlikely that it will affect the first baby though. It is estimated that as many as 70% of pregnancies start out as twins and then one sac gets reabsorbed into the uterus. It could go either way but you've pretty definitely got one baby and there could possibly be two.

    hi

just an update on mine, there was still nothing in the scond sac although it had grown, they have said that the other baby will just absorb it as it grows.

I hope you get the good news you want :)
