I'd like to do something for the grandparents and for DH from the boys but trying to think of something a bit different than the standard card... Does anyone have a super idea they've done/have seen done?

Last year we bought some small wood hearts from Michael's (maybe two inches tall). The kids painted them and I attached a magnet to the back. One year my SIL took their fingerpainting art and cut it up into tiny hearts. She mounted it on thick cardstick and covered it with clear contact paper to make some really cute bookmarks.

Can't wait for some more ideas. I hadn't even thought that far ahead yet!

Another idea would be to get some ceramic paint pens from a craft store and a white mug from Target or Walmart. Have the kids use the paint pens to paint all over the mug. You could add some hearts or a message. Then you bake the mug (or bowl, dish, etc.) in the oven and it glazes the paint. It is really inexpensive and looks JUST as nice as those fancy paint-your-own pottery places!

I was just thinking about this. My sister used to teach preschool and always has tons of cute ideas for this kind of stuff.

Last year she put had my niece finger paint some paper, then she cut it out into a heart-shaped card and wrote something clever/Valentiney on it.

Then she put lipstick on her daughter and had her "kiss" the cards. To top it off, she included a picture of her daughter covered in lipstick after making the project.

Not something I plan on doing with my boys, but it was really cute. I'll have to ask her for some ideas and get back to you.

We're making "angels" with their handprints on red paper that I'm going to cut into hearts. Their handprints form the wings, and you have to fill in with a halo or something in the middle.

My two loved playing with the foamies...we made foamie cards when they were 2 -- of course I had to peel a lot of foamies, but Tana caught on quickly and was able to do that. They put the foamies on cardstock and then I folded it in half and sent it to the grandparents, who loved it. If you can get a photo of the kid(s) as they are creating their masterpieces and send them too, the grands are even more impressed.

Oooooh... I like this! I'm thinking a ceramic vase for the local grandparents (I'll get some flowers for it for presentation), a ceramic candy dish & candy for the distant grammy & great grammy, and a ceramic pot with a plant for DH's office. I think they have these paints in bottles also for making handprints among the squiggles...

I knew you ladies would have great ideas! Thank you!
