When you have a c-section is there more problems with the babies lungs or not breathing right, I thought I read that somewhere...

Its so hard to get facts when you read so much on the internet and its all different! Thats what I love about this board, real life peoples experiences..

the issue with c-sections and babies' lungs is that babies aren't squeezed as much with a c-section delivery as they would be with a vaginal delivery. one of the "side-effects" of all that squeezing through the birth canal is that it helps to empty baby's lungs of any remaining amniotic fluid. so c-section babies are at higher risk of having breathing complications but that being said, delivering by c-section doesn't automatically mean that baby will have trouble breathing, nor does delivering vaginally ensure that baby will be totally fine. helpful, isn't it? ;)

I had my guys via c-section (after 21 hours of labour) and they didn't have any breathing problems, but they did sound stuffed up for a couple of weeks.

I had my girls c-section at 38 weeks, and baby A had to go to NICU for a couple of hours because of breathing. They said it was because she was breech and the c-section.

Totally agree with Rachel. I had c-section and one had to have the fluid in her lungs suctioned out and the other didn't.

I had a c-section at 35 weeks 5 days. Neither baby had any problems.

This was something that I hadn't thought about at all. My first son was a planned c-section and he had several hours with of breathing problems at birth. Never put two and two together that the c-section could have had anything to do with it though.

I had mine by c/s at 38w2d and neither had any breathing issues so I think it's really just impossible to know how each set of babies will be at birth!

No breathing issues with our c-section either.

I think it sounds like a good theory, but have they been able to prove it?

maybe not that theory specifically but numerous studies have indicated a correlation between an increase of breathing related complications in the newborn & c-sections. as i said though, having a c-section doesn't mean your baby will have complications - just that they are at slightly increased risk.

Oooh, that's neat. I've heard the asthma/c-section connection before, but not the immediately after birth connection.
