Every once in a while when we change one of the girls' diapers, she has some thick vaginal discharge. We've only seen it maybe five times, but is this normal? Could she have some kind of infection? I plan to call the pedi on Monday, but I wanted to get some advice from you all in the meantime.

    Thanks!

First, I think you're doing the right thing by talking to your pedi. Second, it's probably nothing to worry about. When our girls were in the NICU, I noticed whitish discharge, and they said it was something all babies had leftover from birth. Then, a couple months later, I talked to our pedi about it, and he said it was normal vaginal mucus, for lack of a better word, and nothing to be concerned about. So don't worry too much, but do talk to your doc.

Oh, I forgot to say that what we experienced was a small amount and only within their lips.

We were told to expect some discharge with our DD it has something to do with the hormones left in her body from when she was inside. I would still check with the PEd but I would not worry as our DD had the same.

Same here. Both girls had it off and on for a few weeks. But I would check with the pedi also just to be safe!

I think you are doing the right thing by taking her to the ped. Is it the thick white stuff? Just make sure you are cleaning in there well during baths. With Emma, I take her out of the bath, and use a washcloth with only water to clean in there.

I recommend taking her to your pedi. My niece had a yeast infection at 2 days old. The doctor said that it is very common for newborn girls to get these due to the leftover hormones from the mother. So you might want her to get checked out just to make sure it's not some kind of infection.

Yes, it's always good to talk to the pedi when it comes to medical stuff. That being said, my dd has had something silmilar since birth. She sometimes gets white discharge, I brought her to the pedi for it and she said it was normal.
