There has been some research (sorry, but I can never remember to site the source) that suggests babies who are born via C/S are more likely to have reflux issues, fluid in the lungs and heart murmurs following birth than children who are born vaginally. This due to not being squeezed through the birth canal, and closing all of those valves. I realize that these things can and do also happen with children who are born vaginally. This is just my curiosity, and regardless of whether your C was elective or necessary. Feel free to share your stories including singletons or higher order multiples as well. Thanks ladies...
Also, this is my first poll question, so I'm sorry if I screw up the layout.
    Thanks again!!

i can't find any indication that delivery method would affect reflux. however, reflux is more common among preemies and most preemies are born via emergency c-section. it may be one of those things where correlation does not equal causation.

i agree w/the pp's. also, lung issues are VERY closely related to digestive issues, especially in preemies and smaller babies in general.

I understand, just testing a theory. Thanks for your input.

My twins born by c-section were problem free but with our next baby he had wet lung which the doctors told me was because of the c-section.As the fluid wasnt pushed out.

I had a c/s and only ONE of my twins had reflux. It was pretty severe and did require meds. Interesting poll. :good:

All 3 of mine were born via c/s and none of them had any medical issues. Well, Olivia had a pnuemothorax and required 36 hours in the NICU, but that wasn't b/c she was born via c/s...she would've had that either way that I delivered.

Our twins were born via c/s. One of them swallowed fluid at birth but was problem free by the end of her first day :)

I had 3 vaginal births, and 1 c-section, and all of my babies had reflux, some worse than others. Hannah was on a vent for 12 hours, but it was due to prematurity. Good luck with your birth!

No health complications at all here, no reflux, no heart murmur, no fluid and I had a vaginal birth. I could have had the same with a C though, who knows.

With the twins (I delivered c-section) Jack had major reflux issues. With my second pregnancy I also had a c-section and she had no issues.

All three of my kids were born via c-section only one of them had reflux. He required Zantac from about 3.5 - 6.5 months. The other two didn't have any problems.

C-section at 34 weeks and both had reflux that required meds. My pedi said the reflux was probably due to their prematurity. That sphincter muscle needed to develop more to keep the stomach acid down.

My son was born barely premature at 36 wks via c/s, and had reflux for 18 months.

My daughter was born at 39 wks via c/s, and had no problems.

    Interesting poll!

Mine were both born VB and have no issues though both were tested for reflux (all came back clear. They´re just gassy!).
