I'm sure most of you think I'm crazy, but I am probably not going to have my girls vaccinated with some (maybe most) of the vaccines out there. I know there is a risk either way and I have heard too much controversy over some of them. There is so much research and I'm a bit overwhelmed as I try to sift through the information. Do any of you have the same mindset? If so, which did you opt out of giving your children and why? If anyone has information to share, I would appreciate it!!

    Thank you!!!

I am choosing to delay vacs until after 2 yrs old. I'm also choosing to seperate the MMR into three different shots. The best place to go with questions on this matter is: http://boards.babycenter.com/n/pfx/forum.a...webtag=bcus3353

The woman that visit this forum have done a LOTS of resource and are willing to share it with you. Good luck.

We aren't vaccinating either at this time. My ds just got his first vax and he's 3. No, I don't think you're crazy. [IMG]

We have decided to go with a modified vaccination schedule as recommended by Dr. donald Miller in his article "A user-Friendly Vaccination schedule" www.apma.net

He recommends individual Diptheria, Tetanus, Pertussis (acellular) & Polio (Salk vaccinecultured in human cells) vaccines after age two, spread out no closer than six months apart.

The article is a good summary of the evidence that vaccinations grouped together (7 at once in the US, 6 in Canada) at`such a young age is riskier than not vaccinating. He says "7 vaccines injected into a 13 lb 2 month old are equivalent to 70 doses in a 130 lb adult"!

There is convincing evidence that vaccines can (but don't in many cases) cause nerological damage and autoimmune disorders. I won't go into all of it but read the article for details.

We're going to wait until our babies' brains and immune systems are better equiped to deal with the potential side effects. Go with your instincts, it's a personal decision.

My kids have all been vaccinated on schedule, but I think it's great that you are researching it so thoroughly. As pp said, it is a personal decision, but I know I was (and still am) paranoid every time one of my kids gets another vaccine. I am, however, just as paranoid about not protecting them completely... [IMG] hard to know which is worse.

My DD's have not been vaccinated for anything and will remain that way. We researched vaccines while I was pregnant and chose not to b/c of the risks that vaccines have. We have read the many studies out there that are linking autism to vaccines, SIDS, ADD/ADHD, etc and I truly believe that many childhood and adult illnesses are vaccine related.

I dont think you are crazy and applaud you for doing your homework. I have tons of links and some great non-vax support groups. Let me know if you want any of them!

I know this is controversial but I feel very strongly that vaccines are important. There is a lot of scary information on the web about the risks of vaccines. I work for a children's hospital and have seen what the diseases can be like - that's scary.

We have a vaccine center on our web page that is NOT supported by Pharmaceutical co's or any source who has anything to do with profitting from vaccines. Take a look.

    www.vaccine.chop.edu

I asked the Infectious Disease Chief his take on vaccines when my first DD was born. He said the risk of the actual diseases FAR outweigh the risk of the vaccine. With more people delaying or forgoing vaccinating, there are a lot more outbreaks and more risk of disease.

We decided to vaccinate on schedule. You have to decide what's best for your children.

Thank you so much for posting that link about vaccines. I watched all the videos and read all the information. I sincerely hope and pray others will too. If one child dies from being unvaccinated, it's too many. I know this is a personal choice, and I am not at all trying to start trouble or even a debate! I just fear that there is so much misinformation out there. Good luck everyone, take care.

There are many, many studies performed that show vaccines harm and kill many children each year.

Here are some studies and some good information sites about the negatives of vaccines.

This is a study recently done here in the USA about thimerosal. The FDA recently decided not to use thimerosal in the new childhood vaccines but did not recall the ones that did. Many vaccines sitting on your peds shelf still contain this deadly chemical and the flu shot does contain it.

I wasn't vaccinated until I was an adult and chose to do so. My parents reason was for religious reasons. I just wanted to let you know that there are others out there that have grown up just fine without getting shots. The only thing I got that there is now a vaccine for is Chicken Pox...and there wasn't a vaccine 30 years ago!

There are good arguements either way. Good for you for doing research.

To the OP: I just re-read your first post and you said that you planned on doing only some but not all the shots. You either have to do them all or none if your children are going into public school or daycare. The gov't does allow waivers that vary by state but they dont let you pick and chose which shots. You either do all of them, or none of them. Just thought you should know...

Here is a wonderful no-vax support site that I belong too. They can answer any questions you may have.

We actually just had a whopping cough outbreak in my school in children who are un-vax for various reasons (high school). Kids were out for WEEKS. The disease aren't 'gone'.

Here is my take: it is a very personal decision and you MUST do mountains of research either way I think....

There are questionable links to autism but my feeling and it is a personal one is that I would rather have an autisic child than one dead or disabled from a preventable disease.

However based on the prinicpals of 'herd immunity' when most of the population is vax the un-vax get protection from the rest of the 'herd'. So what I am saying is that because the vast majority ofpeople vaccinate, those that choose not to benefit from the overall health of the population and so are able to make the choice... Does that make sense?

Thanks for all of the replies.

I'm interested to hear others' stories if anyone cares to share.

Thanks for the links, too. I will look at them and think it over....I at very least agree with some of you that it's better to wait until the nervous system is more developed. My brother told me they wait to give vax in Europe, but I don't know how long or if it's even true. Makes a TON of sense though.

We have only done two of the DTap. Doing the last in two months. I am very worried about vaccines. I have researched a lot but no matter how much I read there is always so much more. Trust your gut. You are the gatekeepers of your babies.
