    Hi Moms,

One of my twins has diarrhea. the Dr. prescribed to perform the vaccin anti diarrhea.

Appreciate to receive any experience or feedback about the efficiency of this vaccin.

Also would like how you treated diarrhea with success.

Many thanks in advance for your replies.

NB: My sons are now one almost one month and a half old.

Are you talking about the rotavirus vaccine??

As for the diarrhea, I would call your Ped and see what he or she suggests you do.

I agree what vaccine are you talking about? Rotavirus is for virus's that cause diarrhea but it's not made to clear up recurrent diarrhea.

I'd be more worried about what's causing the diarrhea if it's happening all the time.

Also are they breastfed? Breastfed babies have very loose stools and it's not diarrhea, it's normal.

I hope it clears up soon!

I did call the Ped who prescribed anti diarrhea milk formula which seem to make things better a bit. The Ped added that if it didn't give results, she suggested to do the anti diarrhea virus which apparently seems to be called Rotavirus. but I still wonder about the scope of its efficiency that's why I am posting this message hopefully to hear from anyone who performed it on their child. But thanks for the message received :)

Hmmm. Well if they have the rotavirus, you don't want to give the vaccine now.

Are they sick? With fever? Or is it just the diarrhea? How long has it been going on?

It's just the diarrhea with one of the twins. it has been going on for two days before the Ped told me about the anti diarrhea vaccin. milk formula seems to be giving better results so far thanks God. Besides my son seems to like it since his milk drinking has increased when starting this formula. Yet I still wonder about the reason that caused him diarrhea. Could a cold cause diarrhea? also I wonder why you said Becky that I dont't want to give the vaccin now?

    Thanks in advance

A vaccine is given to prevent something. If they already have it, it won't do any good. It doesn't sound like rotavirus though. Where do you live? If you are not in the US, there may be different ways of treating patients in other countries. Diarrhea for 2 days isn't too bad. Do you have anything like Pedialyte or Gatorade to rehydrate him/her? When the boys had diarrhea last, it only lasted a few days and the dr. had them drink lots of fluids and Pedialyte. Hope he/she feels better soon!

Well, generally you don't want to give any type of vaccine if they have a fever within 24 hours. That is the recommendation from my ped anyway. And if he has rotavirus(it doesn't sound like it to me), like Megan said, the vaccine won't do any good. However, it can be a good preventative.

A cold could definitely cause diarrhea. Excess mucous=diarrhea sometimes.

    Did you switch formulas?

    Hi,

Thanks for your replies. I checked the Rotavirus on the internet and since I haven't found any other vaccine against diarrhea, I guess the Ped was indeed mentioning that particular vaccine...

Anyhow, it seems that the new anti diarrhea formula diluted with Babylight instead of water has been sufficient to stop the diarrhea. I just have the call back the Ped today to see whether I should continue with the new formula for a while or just get back to the previous one.

I guess that it was cold that caused the diarrhea. By the way, I am from Lebanon, my Ped has an American Board though.

I called the Ped she told me to remain on the anti diarrhea formula for 10 days since starting date but now continue with water instead of babylight. (By the way, I asked her and she was indeed mentioning the Rotavirus you did mention).

Anyhow, I am glad that all went well. I am a new mother and therefore freak out :grr: about anything that happens to my babies. But since babies and kids do get frequent health minor issues, I guess that I should be more informed anticipating thus what usually happen to children.

    Kind regards.

I'm glad everything is getting better! New moms are allowed to freak out, even some of us more experienced moms do at times. :)
