We are planning a family vacation later in June to Williamsburg, VA. My parent's have a time-share condo down there, so it will be me, my husband, our 13 month old twins, my mom, my dad, my sister, and two of her friends (all teenagers). We have two adjoining condo units.

The condo place has pools and playgrounds for the babies. Food and naps will be fine since we will have a full kitchen and bedrooms, etc.

I am wondering if anyone has any tips about taking them to Busch Gardens and/or Water Country. I am anticipating shorter visits, staying out of the sun as much as possible, and just going with the flow. Has anyone taken year-old babies to these places and do you have any good tips? Or just general tips about things to do with babies in the Williamsburg area? We are planning to bring our good jogger stroller and walk around Colonial Williamsburg, too (not bother buying a ticket to tour houses this time.)

Packing...ugh...I have a few weeks before have to think about that. And, how to handle the 10-12 hour car trip! Any advice on that would be appreciated too!

    Thanks a bunch!

I don't have any tips. Just wanted to say I hope you have lots of fun. I have been there but I was in high school and that has been a few years back :( . It was on a school trip and we seen lots of the colonial parts of Williamsburg and it was beautiful.

Just got back from a week there, visiting the in laws. The kids are 3 now, so there's a lot more options for us.

Busch Gardens does not have much for 1 yr olds. When they get to be 2, they can go on the kiddie rides and play in the water park in the toddler section. If you go, leave the kids with your parents and you and DH go by yourself (or with the teens) and have fun.

Take the kids thru CW - yes you can tour the grounds for free. But note that CW is totally supported by admission fees - if you can afford to buy a ticket, it helps. I know that they are hurting for money to cover costs. Watch for events like parades and marches being held. We were able to watch a presentation of several regional drum and fife corps one day, including the cannons. The kids enjoyed it (for a little while).

Take the kids to Yorktown - there's a small beach there that's shallow and soft sand. They'll enjoy playing in the water. A few decent restaurants too.

Drive down Colonial Parkway. It's lovely, not a lot to entertain the kids, but a good way to get a nap out of the kids (when they won't sleep well on vacation).

Other than that, visit some playgrounds and let them swing. It's hard when they're that young. We were there during winter at that age, so were even more confined to the house than you will be in summer. Hope you have a nice trip - the weather was wonderful. Warm, but not too hot during the day. And beautiful scenery.

Thanks! I didn't think there'd be a whole lot for them specifically - I guess I'm just looking for good "tips."

We'll be there the week of June 23rd - if you know of any events or activities going on, that would be great!
