I've had UTIs most my adult life, sometimes sending me into the ER, but I've become usually pretty good at diagnosing myself early enough that I don't have to do antibiotics, just pushing the water and cranberry juice and avoiding soda. There has never been a huge scare during pregnancy [just in my first where they sent us up to L&D to be monitored, but all was well and they gave me medicine and sent me home]--I know they can send you into preterm labor, but how dangerous are they this late in the game? I'm 37 weeks 3 days and this weekend we had several family gatherings where I drank an over the top amount of soda and very little water. In the night, I felt nauseous, crampy, and downright icky. I woke my dh up when the contractions were serious enough this morning and told him to put off going to work. Down to the TMI-- :FIFblush: -yes, it felt like I needed to pee even after going, although the urine was normal color and I went a lot, not just a little. And, yes, there was burning and itching. I STILL didn't GET IT THRU MY HEAD that this may be the start of a UTI until the contractions started to wane, so then I sent my dh off to work and I took a couple cranberry pills with a glass of water after eating breakfast. I'm feeling better now, but wondering how dangerous a UTI would be at this point? I know, I know--when in doubt, go get checked out, BUT that is a huge hastle with 4 little ones to take care of and a dh working [hospital is 30 minute drive], so that is last resort and only if I REALLY think something is going on........... ........not researching or googling this yet cause i don't want to scare myself with falso info, so I'm coming to you all-- :help: --any answers?!?!?! Oh, I know, long, but more background info----at 37 wks 1 day I was dialated to a 3 and 80% effaced with A at a -2. They are both vertex and a natural unmedicated vaginal birth is planned..........and I plan to exclusively breastfeed.......
I did not have UTI this late in my pregnancy, I think it was early on and I did not have any symptoms. It was the doctor's office who called and told me and said they would be calling in an antibiotic I could take. I don't know how dangerous it could be this late in the game. Could you call your OB and see if they will give you some advice over the phone?
I don't know as I have no experience with this but I just wanted to send you  , Mama. Maybe it would be good to just call your doctor's office to see what he/she thinks. Hope you feel better soon and that all will be well.
It may not be the best advice, but if you're feeling better after the cranberry pills and water, just guzzle the water down!!! Then drink some more water to help flush everything out!!! (It also wouldn't hurt to call your ob and ask.)
I have felt better today, so I didn't call my OB--but I may tomorrow if I don't continue to feel even better--now I'm extremely disappointed I wasn't going into labor!!!!!
