    hi
I noticed on my little 2 week old girl twin on her rectum and near it she is red and I was worried so I called the pedi.. and she said to watch it but then asked me waht I use to wipe her when she has a bm I told her wipes . she said dont use wipes use soft face cloths.. I thought that if the hospital uses wipes that it was ok to use.. I use the extra-sensitive ones too.
Has anyone heard of this and has anyone seen this on their babies bottoms before .. it looks like it could be sore for her..
    thanks

You could try just using a wet paper towel. She might be sensitive to the chemicals in the wipes. Make sure you dry the area well, and then I would use some vaseline or diaper rash cream on it like Boudreauxs.

I have to agree with adding the vaseline or diaper rash cream. I use extra sensitive wipes on their bum area and diaper cream when there is a little red near the rectum. I always put a sheen of Vaseline on the bum and crease areas by legs and since I have boys their "manliness"! I have never (knock on wood) had a diaper rash with the boys....even with them teething.

One of my girls got really raw in the early days (the other was fine) so I stopped using wipes and started putting Dr. Smith's cream on her at each dipe change and it cleared within about a week. The hospital we were in didn't use wipes on newborns and advised against it.

My Pedi also told us when the girls were 2 wks to quit using wipes and just use plain water. We switched to extra sensitive and just started using desitin and that seemed to clear it all up. PS does anyone else still use baby powder... we just started and it seems to make them less irritated.

Both my babies have pretty sensitive skin, but we never had a problem with baby wipes as long as it was only on the bottom & not the rest of the body. I get either the Kirkland brand from Costco, or the Huggies brand that's perfume-free. I don't know what she meant by face cloths....the first thing that came to my mind was like the Oil of Olay kind, which I think would have much more soap & perfume.

We do use baby powder, almost every diaper change, but I only get the kind that's constarch. I think it's helped a lot, since we have rarely had diaper rashes.

When my girls had raw bottoms on occasion, I would get a bunch of soft baby washcloths stacked near my changing table. Then I'd fill one tub w/ lukewarm soapy water and another empty one. I'd just dip a cloth in the soapy water, wash the bottom, and deposit it in the empty tub. My babies screamed with wipes on a sore bottom, but they never minded the washcloth trick. Made for extra laundry, but I'd rinse and soak the dirties right away, so it never stained or became an issue. Good luck!

In the very beginning I used regular unscented wipes and the girls' butts got raw, I immediately switched to sensitive wipes and I've never has that problem again.

We don't use wipes at all. I bought a whole bunch of baby face cloths and we wet them and wash them after. I use a wet cloth to wash the bum then a dry cloth to dry the bum before putting on the diaper.

We use regular wipes, but will use plain warm water and a washcloth when my DD has diaper rash (which isn't very often). The wipes can really sting if the skin is irritated from diaper rash.

MOst wipes have alcohol in them so they dry quickly.... that's what usually causes rashes. You can get alcohol free wipes (BJ's brand has a scent and alcohol free version and huggies does as well -- although they are not easy to find always) this may work wonders if you don't want to go to soapy water.

I was advised not to use wipes when they are newborn due to alot of them getting the diaper rash.
We used the VIVA paper towel which is the soft one with warm sterile water and if its a BM we use the warm wetcloth.

We also rarely use diaper cream. Just the A and D cream every now and then.
