Both of my babies are getting tubes put in their ears tomorrow morning, at 7:30 and 8:00. They have had chronic ear infections since December, so it's time... I'm really nervous about the general anesthesia, but I'm also very eager to have the procedure done so they feel better! Any advice? Thanks! [IMG]

Update 2/24: Well, the tubes were put in place on Friday morning without complication. Whew! The girls seem to be doing well. Time will tell... I sure hope this is the end to the ear infections for them! Thanks again for your support! [IMG]

When my son got tubes I was nervous but it was the greatest thing ever that happened. I didn't realize how much hearing loss he had due to ear infections, and when he got his tubes, he heard so much more...like dogs barking outside, etc. I think you will find that it is wonderful! Good luck!

Not to burst a bubble or anything, but my twins had tubes put in on Feb 1, and within two weeks Sam got a HORRIBLE ear infection. It was so bad that when we took him to the ER at 1:30am his white count was so high that they checked him for pneumonia and a bladder infection, and ran blood work to make sure that the infection hadn't moved into the blood stream. Everything came back negative, it was just a terrible ear infection. But from what the Dr. said, this was pretty rare, and Emily has been just fine since, so maybe Sam is done with them for a while!!!

As far as the procedure, it is really minor. They just give them the gas to put them under, and it takes about 10 minutes. Within 20 minutes of waking up Sam was playing and crawling around like he had just taken a short nap (Emily had to be put under by IV because she also had a branchial cyst removed).

My older dd when she was 9 months old got tubes. It was the BEST thing that ever happened. She was miserable for months with chronic ear infections and on endless antibiotics (which is never good). Since then I can count the number of colds on ummm 2 fingers and that was well over a year ago. The procedure is quick and I was back in recovery nursing her in less than 30 minutes from the time she went into the OR. Good luck. HTH!!!!!

I forgot to add she had no complications and slept through the night again that night. She had been night waking for months again!!

I had tubes as a child and Im so glad I did!

Just a warning, when they wake up from anethesia they will be very upset, its not from the pain, its from the grogginess. My son has been under twice and when he woke up he was screaming and just didnt understand where he was or what was happeneing. I held him and rocked him and he calmed down.

I will keep your little ones in prayer tomorrow

Thanks so much for all the encouraging words and offers of prayer! I really appreciate it! I know the girls will feel so much better and be so much happier after getting tubes... It's just a little scary knowing they'll be "put under" so young. I'll let you know tomorrow how it all goes. [IMG]
