Went to my doctor today. I had my u/s everything looks great with the baby. The tech was able to squeeze in a measurement of the nuchal fold, which looks great. And the baby has a nasal bone..apparently this is a good indicator that the baby does not have down's syndrome... The tech told me that 80% of down's babies don't have a nasal bone during the first trimester! It's actually more reliable than a triple screen in diagnosing down's...the problem is that most insurance companies won't cover a 1st trimester scan just for this.... but since I was having the scan for other reasons, they could squeeze those things in. There is no fresh blood behind my placenta...and the old blood behind the placenta has drained into the main part of the uterus.... So that's very, very good... old blood behind placenta = clot behind placenta...and that's bad. Now my other old blood and this "newer" old blood have merged together and instead of being high up it's sitting right over the opening of my cervix. She has no clue why it's not coming out. The only thing that I can think is that it's kind of gelled together and just is a little too solid to squeeze out. Hopefully it will disolve or move...don't know how this impacts VBAC options. There may have been some fresh blood in there, but it was hard to tell.

I asked the doc a ton of questions. They send all of their patients to the perinatologist at 20 weeks for a level 2 u/s. She said they may choose to send me at 18 weeks b/c of all this business...or perhaps a bit earlier if things don't seem to improve. Basically she said the only thing a peri can do is to help them evaluate if the baby is safer inside or outside the womb...and clearly at this stage it's not an option to have the baby outside! We decided that there really was no point for me to have the triple screen test, since the false positives are so high for those with placental issues. I don't need one more thing to worry about. I also asked about testing for fifth's disease.. she said, "no problem" and I'm going to be tested for exposure/immunity to it. So I'm praying that I'm immune so that I can get together with my nieces in a few weeks. I asked her to clarify what I am or am not allowed to do. I'm on definite "pelivic rest" ...ie. no sex... no cleaning...no laundry...no vacuuming, scrubbing floors etc... keep the lifting of the kids to a minimal....no exercise. I asked about taking a walk around the block. She said, "you can walk from here to there and that's it." Meaning, pretty much no recreational walking regardless. She said doing things like visiting family or taking the kids to the circus are okay. (We did cancel the day to Hershey park though... my dh's job has a company day there where we get in for free...we took Emma last year and she loved it. So we were going to take her again, but it's going to be too much walking for me. bummer.)

So that's my update for now...the doctor wants to keep a closer eye on things... she wants me in next week for another u/s and visit with a doctor. So that makes me feel better.

Susanna - so glad that things continue to go well with this baby and that your doctor seems to be really good at staying on top of your care. That was great that they could do a little first trimester screening in with your regular ultrasound as now you have that peice of mind. I hope things continue to be as positive as this appointment seemed to be. :D

Sounds like a great appointment. Your medical care does sound top of the line and that is fantastic!

Would it be possible for you DH to take the children to Hershey? I know it might be sad for you to miss but what a great Daddy bonding day if it will work!

Keep your chin up sweetie, hopefully each appointment will be better than the last (and that is saying alot after this one right :D ?)

Well, the main problem with that is that dd is potty trained.. and I know for sure dh totally wouldn't be comfortable taking her into the men's room!!! He bounced around the idea of taking his mom down with him...but I think we decided we will try to fit in a trip later this summer to a local park that has kiddie rides....then we could take all three kids, and it would be easier to bring along help too...less walking for me too...hopefully by then all this will be resolved... :D Still have my heart set on that magical moment!!! And then I can have a "happily ever after" pg!!!
