Well we thought we might be able to take our little angels home this week but things aren't looking good for that. The amazing thing is that they avoided the NICU and went straight to the nursery. They were born at exactly 35 weeks and were just over 4.5lbs and nearly 20" long. They started out doing really really well while I was in the hospital recovering from my c-section.

They just met with their pediatrician this morning and he wanted to keep them until at least Thursday to monitor them since they experienced some minor withdrawal from some medicine I had to take during the latter half of the pregnancy. Well he called a bit ago and said that they are being moved to the pediatric unit to be further monitored since baby "a" River, had a drop in o2 levels during a feeding - he is also the baby that keeps failing his car seat challenge for the same reason. His brother threw up some bile the other other night so they want to keep an eye on these issues. Both boys have no fat reserves and are having to be monitored on a constant basis to monitor their body temperature.

So all in all they are in the best possible care for and are there for the best of their survivals but I have to say that I am going through baby withdrawal. I want them home but I know that this is the best for them and that it is a miracle that they avoided the NICU. It's just that everday that passes the further it seems that their coming home date goes. I just want to hold them in my arms forever.

I'm definetly going through the hormonal, just delivered, phase of the post pardum part of the pregnancy. I am so anxious to get them home but I know they are to young and too small.

 I'm sorry you're going through this! My boys were born at 35 weeks on the dot as well! Your guys are way bigger than mine were (we had IUGR problems and Jack had to be in NICU for 18 days). I know how hard it is to leave the hospital without your baby.

It sounds like they're getting great care. When Jack was in NICU I could only visit once a day, and they'd only let us hold him for 15 minutes. I would tell him that there were unlimited snuggles waiting for him when he got home, and boy has he taken us up on that!! Take this time to rest up for when they come home, and try to enjoy your visits with your babies. They'll be home soon and they can redeem their unlimited snuggle credit!

Take care of yourself and best wishes to your boys!!

Im sorry that you are having a rough time and that they are having a little bit of a rough patch. It is hard enough with your hormones going crazy after delivery and then just wanting to go home with your babies.

I hope that you all are able to go home soon!!

my LOs came right at 35 weeks too!

it sounds like they are doing really well and they will be home before you know it, DS was in the nicu for 8 days and it was a real struggle for me to leave him there. but as soon as they are home you will forget all about the time you spent apart and will get to snuggle to your hearts content! every day that passes is one day closer to having your boys home!! [IMG]

get as much rest as you can now, because those boys are gonna want to cuddle in the middle of the night to make up for what they are missing now!

i know it seems so hard right now, but you can make it! [IMG]

I am so sorry you had to leave without them. It is hard, but you know they are under the best care. I had to keep repeating that to myself. Looking back on it, it was nice to have time to recover from my csection and be at my best when the boys arrived home. Hang in there and be sure to visit the NICU forum for extra support!

Well I just got off the phone with the Pediatric Unit and that's where the boys are now. They said that they encourage a parent to stay the night with them so it looks like I will be the one doing that and then I guess sleeping through the day. DH is going back to work tomorrow and will be at work for the rest of the week until 6pm ish. It's going to make the recovery on me a little harder but I can't bare to be a part from them anymore than necessary. so I guess I better get some sleep now!!!

Thanks for the well wishes. I wasn't sure where to post this since they aren't technically in NICU just in the regular pediatric unit.

Hi, just passing though with some  it is a really trying time when things don't go as smoothly as you wished for. I'm glad you get to spend the night with them though just try and take it easy. You will have them back where they belong in no time. Take care

Good luck and what you're going through right now is very typical of 35 week old males. REST NOW!!! They'll be home super soon!!

Congrats on your twins,I went through almost the same thing with my girls when they where born its so hard to come home without babies. The night I got home from the hospital without them I had an anxiety attack. Then next 11 days while they were in the nicu stepdown were very difficult for me,but they were right where they needed to be. Now all these months later I am grateful for the care they received and having 2 very healthy babies. One thing I can say was a lot of the issues with breathing and eating went away almost over night once they stated getting my breast milk. Hope things will improve for your boys and you can bring them home very soon.
