if this is first time reading this my DD has been battleing a fever that comes and goes for 2 days highest being 103.5 now it's 102. goes up comes down we actually had a 99 last night. i thought good it was going down finally. then it went back up last night to 101.8

ok so we went to the docs and she has an ear infection in her left ear and on top of that he said a virus. give her motrin every 6 tylenol every 4hrs. also at night i can give her some benadryl to help with the congestion.

she had 4 ozs at 3am and then at 11:30 she had taken 5 ozs. she used a pacifierso when i saw her in her highchair starting to fall asleep i let her and gave her 5 minutes then i took the pacifier out of her mouth and stuck the bottle in her mouth and she took it. so i had to trick her to get her to take something. since that time i haven't been able to get her to take anything. the doc said to keep trying fluids and to get her to take some. she cant dehydrate so quickly if there is no vomiting or diahrea. yeah easy for him to say. i tried giving her some formula through a dropper because she just refuses to drink from the bottle. well she had 1 1/2 teaspoons before she started to spit it back out at me. so i stopped. i don't know what to do. i tried juice same thing. doc said i can give her jello because it will turn to water. ice too. anything that will turn to fluid to get some in her. ice is too cold and jello she will just spit it out also. i have tried giving her some fruit and she takes some then spits it back out. if i try to force her she cries and pushes me away. i don't know what to do.

anyone with advice i am at my wits end here

We had this problem with one of my girls too. It was a pain in the neck, but I took a 1 tsp. medicine dropper and gave her fluids like that, one measley tsp. at a time. Maybe you can try that with water or her bottle. It was hard, but it did eventually pay off until they drink again.

    I'm sorry she's sick. :( :hug99:

Oh no, poor baby! The ear infection makes it hurt when she sucks, so that is why she probably is not taking her bottles well. Have you tried Popcicles? Chicken broth? :hug99:

If its the sucking that hurts, could you try to get her to drink out of a regular cup? My girls will drink from a cup if I hold it and tilt it. Yes its messy, but it might be worth a try. Also have you tried pedialyte? GL and I hope she feels better soon. :hug99:

ok so she ate some food this afternoon and since then had nothing just wouldn't take a bottle. the doc said i had to get her to take fluids even in a dropper so thats what i did i gave her pedialite in a dropper. she took 3 1/2 ozs. well after i gave her the antibiotics the doctor told me to. she was fine. 2 hours later it was bedtime so i got her dressed after taking her temp and gave her motrin. this was 7pm. i let her sit awhile with DS until 8:30 then got the cereal and bottles ready. the doc told me to give her benadryl before bedtime because her nose was real stuffy and because of all the horror stories on the over the counter cold meds benadryl is the safest. i was going to try to give her a bottle and i was feeding DS his cereal. well she was staring so i have her a little less then half of a spoonful 3 times then she just threw up. so now i am hoping she doesnt start throwing up also. if that happends then she will have to go to the hospital and get an iv in her. that is a horror show. been there done that. so far she has been fine. i am unsure if i should try to put her to sleep or if she should be elevated. i am sleeping in her room tonight so i can hear every little noise and jump up if i have to quicker then i could if in my bed.

Oh, poor baby! I always sleep in my girls' room when they're sick too. As far as fluids, it sounds like you're doing the best you can. How many wet diapers is she having? I remember when my oldest was really sick as a baby, the nurse told me she should have at least 3 wet diapers in a day to show that she wasn't getting too dehydrated. Hope she gets over this really soon. Hugs to you! :hug99:

I am so sorry to hear that she is still feeling awful...ear infections are nasty!

Pedialyte also has the freezies, maybe she might like those.

I hope that she gets some rest tonight, and momma too!

ok last night she finally went to sleep at about 11:30 i held her in my arms and rocked her to sleep then held her just for me. i did put her down in her crib and i went to bed also we woke up at 2:30 i took her temp and it was 102.4 so i gave her tylenol at 3am. 3:15 she took some pedialite all by herself drinking from a bottle. 3 ozs. held that down then again wanted more at 4am so i gave her more and she took 2 more ozs. then i rocked her back to sleep and put her in her crib. she is still sleeping now and i am going to wake her in a couple minutes if she doesn't wake up. i have to keep tylenol and motrin in her to help with the fever or i would just let her sleep.

do you think its bad that when her temp goes up to 102.5 that i take off her clothes and she just has a light shirt on? yesterday when i was waiting to call the doctors office her temp was 102.6 so i just put her in a onsie for half an hour then put on some light clothes. WAS I NOT SUPPOSED TO DO THAT. my MIL said oh you shouldn't do that you need to bundle her up. i said i need to get that fever down thats what i need to do and bundling her up would make it worse. she said oh no no no so i said ok what would you have her wearing then. because to bundle her up and make her temp go up she could have a seizure. well she said oh that dont happen but i would put her in just what she has on now. well you know best. i said why am i always doing everything wrong to them in your eyes. you always have something to say about what i am doing. you came up here and told me to put my daughter sitting all the way up when i was giving her medicine which would of just came out of her mouth that way. i am tired of you telling me to do this and that. let me raise them my way you had your children. i will take opinions only if i don't know what to do. i also told her if i say something not to do she has to listen to me because i am their mommy.

am i just being mean because i am worried? she did have it coming though

:hug99: I was hoping you had a better night! :( I was always told to keep them cool, in lighter clothing. Bundling them up can make the fever rise. Warm(not cold(you don't want her to shiver), not hot) baths can also make the fever go down quickly if she gets too hot.

I'm sure your MIL is trying to help, but I can see where you would get frustrated! Hang in there momma. :hug99:

I generally strip the boys down to a onesie or even a diaper when they run a high fever (as an example, Lucas started at 103.5 during the day for a couple of days and finally reached at least 106 last month while we were in the ER...I say at least because the thermometers don't read past that) so I totally understand how scary it can be.

I usually also give them a tempid bath and put a washcloth on their head or neck for little while too.

You don't want her to shiver but you don't want to keep elevating her temp because she's dressed too warmly. The first thing they did at the ER was strip him down and put damp wash clothes all over him.
