Update: Kelsey & Ryley 7 days old!

Hey Everyone!

Just wanted to Update all of you on how Kelsey & Ryley are doing. Today was day 7 in the NICU and our babies are one week old! They are both doing well. Doctors say that they are both gaining weight steadily and both are tolerating their feedings. Loving Mommy's Milk so much that I am having a hard time pumping enough. So far no formula for either on them but I am sure the time will come because they are catching up to me and I feel as though I can't pump enough before it is time for them to eat. It is def. hard to provide for two. I feel constantly hungry and thirsty! But Mommy is trying hard! Daddy is on cloud 9. He is loving his babies and holding them each chance he can get. He has been taking such good care of me and is such a loving caring husband. Tonight=2 0is Korey's second night home. My mom has been keeping him. Today I went to the hospital alone and Daddy spent some quality time with Korey. It will be good to get back into our routine. We are trying to come up with some kind of schedule of going to the hospital and balancing things at home. Seems like we have been on batteries the last week and they are started to go dead. We are both physically and emotionally drained and can't wait for our babies to come home. Korey has gotten to peak at them twice now and asks everyday when brother and sister will be home. He can't wait to hold them!

Kelsey gained a whole 2 ounces since last night and Ryley 1 ounce. Ryley is eating an ounce now and Kelsey a little over half an ounce every three hours. Kelsey does have a small hole in her heart but doctors say it should close on its own. She is still with her oxygen but is receiving the lowest amount. She had a couple spells yesterday where her heart rate dropped but she corrected it on her own. No spells today. Doctors will wait till her 2nd heart ultrasound Monday to see if the hole has closed and decide if she will be taken off the oxygen.

Kelsey is 3lbs 11oz and Ryley is now 3lbs 8oz.

Ryley took his first feeding from a bottle today, only half an ounce though so he wouldn't get worn out. He did so well! He loved it! He looked surprised at first, he has been sucking on a pacifier while getting his food throhug a feeding tube and it was surprising to him when something came out of the nipple! He looked very happy and satisfied! He will get one feeding a day out of a bottle. Kelsey will get to try nipple feeding when she no longer needs the oxygen. Soon I will get to introduce nursing! I can't wait!

We are doing Kangaroo care with each of them once a day. It is skin to skin therapy with the babies and they LOVE it! We like to do a feeding with each time so they can experience sucking their pacifier, getting full and being close to Mommy. This way they can smell Mommy and get some sense of nursing.

They are darling! You must be exhausted; hope you're able to catch up on rest a little. Glad they're doing so well. Keep up the good work with the pumping!
