    Hi All -

Brady was seen Monday at EI (Ortho. & PT) thought that Brady would need a brace for his left tibia and told me to make an appointment with another Orthopedic.

I had already made an appointment if not for anything else but a 2nd opinion.

The Ortho. today...Dr. Rynne said that he didn't need anything. He said that it is something that he should outgrow. He said that in the past they were quick to put the braces on but studies have shown that if they put braces on or not...the end results have been the same. They outgrow it and nothing can make it happen quicker. They told me that the curve in his left tibia bone was a "packaging defect" (the way he was growing in the womb) & not a "manufacturing defect" meaning it's totally 100% correctable.

He said that more times than none, he sees this with multiples and especially if that baby was breech. Wierd! Anyways, he doesn't need anything for the time being.

If he doesn't show improvement in 9-12 months, then I should have him seen again.

He did x-ray the hips and both legs and everything looked fine. He said that he wanted to do an x-ray even though he knew that it would be fine but that he would feel badly if he didn't and it was a problem from his hip/leg.

Now, I got two different opinions...What do I do now?

    Thanks

[IMG] Yeah Brady! This is very good news. Hopefully next month when we take Jessy to the ortho our news will be just as good!

Go with the orthopedic doctor because this is his speciality and I don't think a pedi has any business diagnosing things like that anyway!

Brady was seen the first time by the EI Ortho. doctor and seen today by a pedi. Ortho doctor....

    Both said two diffferent things....

Get another one. It can't hurt & maybe you will feel better if you have 2 of one of the opinions. Good luck.

I honestly don't know what advice to offer you...he probably will grow out of it, as most kids do, BUT, he could be like me...mine went too long, and now I deal with it as an adult...not severely, but still noticeable at times. I really can't say what I would do...funny how much medical practice changes over the years...sleep on tummies, don't sleep on tummies, mercury thermometers, no mercury thermometers...this is just another example. I think I would seek a third opinion...like pp said, it can't hurt.

I would probably get a third opinion. However, if the dr at EI is affiliated with the place that would be providing/selling you the brace then I would be more inclined to trust the 2nd dr since he has nothing to gain/lose from offering you an accurate diagnosis.

Interesting about the breech babies, I hever knew that.

I would go with the specialist too. That's what they do, so they probably have the better opinion and handle on the situation.

I would also get a third-opinion and see what they say before making a decision. [IMG]
