I had my 24 week appt. today and everything was great. Babies are active and growing well (1.3 and 1.4 pounds). I finally had the nerve to ask how much I've gained so far (I generally don't want to know because it stresses me out!) and I've gained 24 pounds...which according to my ob is just fine--so that was good to know.

Now I need some advice. She gave me the glucose stuff to take home and drink before my next appt. The problem is, I throw up every morning and I'm worried about throwing this up as well. I threw it up during my last pregnancy when I took the stuff...but I'm not sure what I can do to combat that. Anyone else had a similar experience? I'm hesitant to try and eat something beforehand, because I don't want to spike my blood sugar and then fail the test just to have to do it again. Any suggestions?

    thanks! Reyna

My OB said I could have a low-carb meal the morning I had to drink the stuff...like bacon and eggs or something. Of course..I failed mine, so maybe you shouldn't listen to me [IMG] Do you just throw up once in the morning? I guess you could just wait until after that happens. Sorry you're still having morning sickness...

and 24 lbs at 24 weeks is ideal...good job!

Can you put your appointment later in the day? My ob advised me to eat a low carb, breakfast with no sugar. Like the pp eggs, bacon. Also, taking anti-nausea medicine like zofran or phenegren would help with the nausea. Hope this helps!

    Hi Reyna-

I haven't taken the test yet but what about if you wait unitl a little later in the day to take it? DO you only throw up in the AM? Do you have any pills you can take for nausea prior to taking the test?
    Congrats on a great appointment!

Of course it makes perfect sense to just schedule the appt. later in the day, I was just worried about the effects of having eaten on my blood sugar if I put it off till later in the day....but if you all think it's ok to go ahead and eat something before I go, I can just plan on going after lunch or something. Thanks for the input. I only want to have to do this ONCE!

My OB suggested that I eat something beforehand since I'd been having pretty serious nausea issues - but she didn't mention it being lo-carb, I'll definitely check on that!

Hmmm I had to fast 2 hours before the 1 hour Glucose Test, and they don't send it home with you - you have to sit there and drink it in front of the people at the lab. I don't know.

The 1 hour drink isn't terrible (at least compared with the 3 hour one I had to do yesterday - twice the sugar!) Blech! I thought I was going to throw it up for the whole 3 hours of the test. They kept giving me ice chips and that really helped.

I would make it later in the day and go high protein/low carb on your meals until appointment time.

My doc doesn't want me fasting, so unless he told you not to eat, that's what I would try.

I haven't had it yet with my twins, but with my last singleton I passed with flying colors...92!
