We are trying to come up with names for our girls, but it's much harder than I thought it would be. Basically, DH and I don't agree on very many. I want something more unusual than him, but names that are still pretty sounding. We'd rather not have more 'K' names, although there are many I like. Does anyone have some ideas for some 'different' kind of names that I can 'try out' on Dh? Here are some ideas of mine that he doesn't really like: Aelis, Selah, Mahra, Soleil (m.n. only), and Analiese (m.n.). He likes names like Emma, Ella, and Josie. I don't like Josie and the others are too common for me.

Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks! Oh, and we'd rather not have them very 'matchy.' Could someone please link this to Expecting as well?

I am with you I have always liked different names. Lets see I of course like my girls names. I have also always liked Rhiannon, Tatiana, Reann, Brianna, and Rhianna. I have a friend who named her daughters Danika and Annalise. Good Luck!

What about Emerson? It's kind of like Emma. Or Ellanore/Ellasyn for Ella?

I think Addison, Gianna, and Aubrie are beautiful names you don't run across very often.

I love uncommon names, too! My friend has a little girl named Ila, which I love. Other names: Braeylyn, Gail, Marta, Carmon, Camille, Rayme, Hally, Lara, Anya... I can't think of any more right now.

We didn't name our girls until they were five day old! We didn't find out the gender while I was pregnant and we had boy names picked out. I was 33 weeks and on night I said to Dh "We REALLy need to start to think of some girl names because I'm getting worried." He tole me not to worry aobut it, we had pleanty of time, etc. Of course my water broke that night and I had the babies! Dh wanted to name one of them Valentina! NOows you can see why it took five days to anme them! Anyway, their names are Brynne Adeline and Maya Catherine, and I love both names.

Good luck and let us know what you decide!

My brother-in-law and his wife just had a baby girl and named her Samiah. We also have good friends who just had their first Granddaughter, and her name is Paisley. I also like Marnie and Eleanor. Good luck choosing names. It is a big job.

I had a freind in college named Alise, another named Salima (Indian I believe), we have a niece named Thias (pronounced Tiees - not good at phonetically spelling), hmmmm, a friend named Sonia (fairly uncommon). We are pretty sure we are having boys... you can use our girl names- Katherine Maria and Caroline Ann - of course one is a K and they are a little matchy. How about Helena? My mil's name and I do like her. They call her Lena for short.

    Good luck.

Thanks so much for your suggestions...it will probably take us a while to decide for sure. Some of the names that end in -en, -yn, -an, etc. sometimes don't go so well with our last name since it ends in -en (although there are many I like). Any other suggestions are welcome. Thanks!

It's not that strange of a name, but you don't hear it VERY often. I like Mallory. I think it sounds very feminine. I also like Aubrey and Ava but Ava is getting pretty popular. I like Paisley too! We have McKenna picked out if we EVER have a girl.

Well, obvioulsy I love the name Addison (since we named one of our twins that [IMG]) and we call her Addie. You'll find that perfect name though. Good luck!

If one of DD's twins is a girl, they are naming her Maylene Elizabeth after the 2 great grandmas.
And NO, they won't be calling her Ellie May [IMG] (for those of you who know the old T.V. show The Beverly Hillbillies)

I know you said you didn't prefer K names but thought I would tell you this anyway. My name is Kaimee(pronounced Kay Me) Very unusual but I think very pretty. I really like the names Maggie, Casey, Megan, Camille, and Thora, and I have a friend who named her little girl Noah. It really is a hard decision. Good Luck!

I know a gal named Lila. She's very independant and strong and beautiful. She worked with me. I always liked her name.

A friends little girl is Mackenna. They call her Kenna (whoops another K name).

I also like Audrey the girl twin of a friends B/G twins.

Is this making it better or worse? haha

I suggested Avalon to my DH, but he didn't like it...I think because of the car (Toyota Avalon?) Do you think most people think of that when they hear that name?

Here are my favorite girl names:

Whitney, Olivia, Patience, Avianna, Faith, Madeline, Penelope... if I had twin girls it would probably be Penelope and Patience or Avianna and Abigail.

I didn't read all the other responses. But we also had a hard time meeting in the middle on names. What if you each pick one full name for each girl? That was what we basically did in the end. (I named Zach. ) If not, what about names your DH likes but with nouveau/ unusual spellings? One cool girl name I heard once is Janessa. Good luck!

  31. Rhiannon

Haha. Someone suggested my name, but it ends in an "in" sound. I named my daughters Carys and Elora. Your daughter is Karis so I imagine that the pronunciation is the same.

I also liked Arwen, Bronwyn, and Jade, but my husband didn't like any of those. Good luck.

I have this Book series Clan of the Cave Bear and the main character's name is Ayla. I love this name but the middle name would be hard to come by. i love some of the name in that series. they have a boys name that i thought was very interesting too. Thonalon. you could probably spell it a few different ways. there are a lot of girls names too and none of them are at all common. i'll have to go searching in them again. besides i have read those 5 times now and it wouldn't hurt to read them again--hehe

    lots of love!

Thanks so much for all the suggestions...Even if we do decide on names, we probably won't share until they're born. [IMG] Meshell, I really like the name Ayla, but a friend's daughter is already named that and I don't think I want to 'steal' it. I guess I want to decide before "the end" so we can start thinking of them by name. Maybe we'll decide in the next month or so.
