Until what age should you continue to offer

For breakfast I've pretty much just been letting share a piece of toast, a banana and some yogurt with fruit. It's much easier than making cereal. But I feel a little guilty, like maybe I should still be offering the cereal too? When did you stop the cereal?

    Hi,

My girls are 10.5 months and no longer eat cereal for breakfast. I think I gave it to them once last week but they hated it. I've been feeding them either pancakes, french toast, waffles, fruit, cheerios.

We were definitely done with baby cereals by then. In fact I think it was closer to 9 months or so.

Rice cereal is still a staple in our diet, being gluten free. we like to mix a favorite pureed fruit with our cereal or a good veggie.

Ok, good that makes me feel better. I was afraid I was depriving them of something with good nutritional value due to my laziness.

I think mine were well into their first year before we gave up cereal.

Oatmeal and Cherrios are the only things my boys can eat right now at 9.5 months or otherwise their bums break out bad. I hope to add to their diet soon, but this might be it for a while.

We still use it to thicken their yogurt, but that's it.

If they are eating other things, then I would say dont feel guilty about the cereal. For us, I used the cereal to keep thickening the purees so that they would stay on the spoon all the way to their mouths probably until about 13 months when they gave up purees.

I do give them a mixed grain cooked cereal in the mornings still (Oat, Millet, Barley)... and like the others said its great to thicken up yogurt and other purees. I'm starting to give them more soft finger foods so I don't know how long I'll be doing purees and the cereals. Though dh and I tend to do oatmeal for ourselves each morning too...

I do see where giving them pancakes, toast and other finger foods sounds easier than me feeding them... maybe they'll just "pick up" feeding themselves!

As for you offering cereal still... it sounds like your breakfast is good, hopefully you'll figure out how to get the right nutrition into your little ones, and morning cereals may not be in the menu.
